Morning all. My oatmeal bowl is clean, I've had a cup of coffee, I'm listening to Mel Torme and I'm about to begin work on the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

That is all.

TOD

The question is can an animal actually give a performance? I am sure as with small children it is all in the editing. Also I am sure as in the case with Lassie there were several used in a single film. There was a running Lassie, a jumping Lassie, a cute Lassie etc.  Arnold the Pig on Green Acres was played by multiple pigs because once they grew to a certain size they became unmanagable. So many of animal performances of recent films where they "talked", like "Babe" were played by live versions and animitronics.

I really don't have a favorite performance by an aimal.

But I did get to meet and became an "assistant" for a week to Zippy The Chip. A great roller skater (He did this rather than walking) and when he wanted a hug (and he wanted a lot of them) he would bring his arms to his chest. I am sure he is no longer with us.

Well, it's certainly becoming obvious that the producers are fixing the results of the show by the material they're picking for the contestants.  If you give someone a bad song to sing, they're only so much "good" they can get out of it.  In other words, "Sh*t in, Sh*t out."
********
Which song(s) were you referring to?

Right now my favorite danny is max. And my favorite sandy is laura. Although since i have never seen them sing or act together i have no idea if they are compatible.

As for who they got rid of, i think it was obvious who was going to be in the bottom 2 (ally and kathleen). But i was disappointed with who they sent home (kathleen). Just in her sing-off, her acting skills were so obviously superior. I cannot believe that they are considering having ally as the new sandy.

Btw, since david ian is payrolling the show shouldn't his vote count more. He said he wanted kathleen to stay. I am surprised that kathleen (marshall) chose ally, since she has continually said that ally cannot act but that kathleen is superb.

Btw, most of us cannot post about GREASE when it is on since that is the same time as THE AMAZING RACE.

Tonight was just a Danny night, so... I think the song choice for Austin may have backfired.  The song choice for Max was well done.  The song chosen for Chad did him no favors at all.  And the song for Derek - well, the promo piece they did for him beforehand and the song picked for him, basically sabotaged him.  So...

Okay i just got to this post.

So you're saying that the judges want max to win???

I thought they wanted chad. Or at least that is how it is coming across with david ian.

I thought chad sounded terrible in his song (like he had the worst cold ever).

I actually think that they are quite shocked that max is still around. I don't think any of them ever thought he could cut it. But he is hugely popular. And he is the only danny who actually acts all of his songs. And since we are not privy to seeing any actual acting scenes, we must assume that max is the best actor.

It's all we have to go by!

I sure as heck hope they start showing acting scenes in couples. Or they are gonna just end up with a danny and sandy that have no chemistry.

I really cannot believe that they have a whole hour for just 4 people and they cannot bother to show any acting scenes.

Boggles my mind.

Don't they want a danny and sandy that work well together. To me that is so much of the show.

I'm only surprised there were no comments that DR MBarnum preferred his weiners well aged, much like the Chinese like 1000-year eggs.

Ah!  Zippy The Chimp!

Steve's uncle was a photographer, and he used to keep a Zippy the Chimp doll in his studio for when he had children in a for a sitting.  Steve had pictures of the doll, but had never had one himself, so...  A couple years back, I found a whole Zippy family up for bidding on e-Bay - Zippy, his wife/girlfriend, and their baby (I guess).  And the squeaker still worked in Zippy's hand/paw too. :)

In movies I loved the horses that played Black Beauty.

My Dog Skip and Old Yeller are my two favorite dog movies, although The Shaggy Dog and Betty the dog in Three Wishes are close.

And my word on "Grease..." this morning... at least for now...

I thought Austin sounded bad during his song.  Not awful-bad, just sort of peculiar.  It should have been in a higher key, imho, and he sang most of it through his nose.  Yes, he was doing a character, but Danny never is supposed to sing like that in show.  So... Again, the producers aren't really helping anyone with the song their choosing for the contestants.  And although Max was good last night, he could have been a lot better with a different song - one where he didn't have to push to show his more tough, macho side.

Favorite Lassie moments:

June Lockhart - in a long shot drives that old Dodge Pickup from a long shot to a medium shot, stops the truck and jumps out and is in focus!

And....the plumber visits the Martins and leaves some tools by the sink.  Later June/Ruth is driving the 57 Dodge car and has a flat tire.  She loses control of the spare getting it out of the trunk and of course steps in a bear/bobcat trap.  Lassie comes by and Ruth makes a "C" figure with her hand telling Lassie to go get the C clamp the plumber left by the sink and bring it to her.  And she does, just before the bobcat gets her!

I do remember in the 70's watching an episode about a runaway speedboat and I said - if that dog brings that boat in by herself, I will never watch that show again.  She did and I haven't....much.

I am watching NORTH TO ALASKA on DVD.  I like this movie.  So funny.  With John Wayne and Stewart Granger and Fabian.  Capucine and Ernie Kovacs.  Saw it so many years ago at the drive in.  Loved the theme song.

Just noticed today....from a play by Eugene Fodor from an idea of John Kafka!

I had another dream. It involved two babies that I didn't seem to care much about and a big mess mixing that powered formula that got all over my stove that they wouldn't consume, anyway. I woke up and fretted about those babies that don't exist. I finally just got up.

And this is why I don't like dreams.

It sounds like high anxiety to me.

My all time favorite is Eddie the dog on FRASIER.  What other animal ever exhibited such droll timing?

As a youngen, I loved the dog on THE LITTLEST HOBO.

Favorite cat performers are Pyewacket in BELL BOOK AND CANDLE and Cat in BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S.

And I liked the pig in BABE, even if he wasn't always a real pig.

Good morning!

Another glorious day in NC. The high may just make it to 60, but there isn't a cloud in the sky and the air smells so fresh. I'll be doing some errands today after my lunch with best friend John, so I'll be out in that fresh air quite a bit.
