When I was shopping at Walgren's (nothing but the best for me) yesterday; I saw that they carried cans of Honey Mustard & Onion Cashews!  I saw only their own brand, so I don't if Mr. Peanut has jumped on the bandwagon.

Well, if Snyder's and Rold Gold can keep coming out with all those new-fangled pretzel bit flavors...  It was only a matter of time.

My favorite Betty Hutton performance isn't in a very good film, but it's a guilty pleasure of mine - DREAM GIRL.

I watched the 1942 RIO RITA this evening. I have to admit that Abbott and Costello have some very funny bits in the film, and I much preferred this to their MGM film A&C IN HOLLYWOOD. John Carroll is handsome personified, and how great to see so many wonderful character actors around: Tom Conway, Barry Nelson, Peter Whitney. And, of course, Kathryn Grayson had to stop the movie cold with one of her "notes above the staff" arias that she did a lot of in the 1940s.

CBS had two new episodes of OLD CHRISTINE on display tonight. The first guest starred MAtt Letscher, returning in the role of Burton, one of CHristine's disastrous boy friends whom she connects with again. Funny episode.

The other concerned Christine connecting with her ex-husband's brother who comes out to her as gay. He wants it kept quiet until he can tell his brother in his own way, but, knowing Christine, she can't keep her mouth shut.

'24' had an exciting episode but one that gave star Kiefer Sutherlan something of a respite while other characters carried the burder of this particular hour. Jean Smart was back as the former First Lady, and there were surprises galore during the hour, though the biggest one seemed telegraphed pretty obviously to me.

I'm home from La Mancha.  It was ok. We had an understudy for Cervantes/Quixote. It was a make up performance, so maybe that's why, but a couple seasons ago we seemed to have understudies a lot and a lot of people were very disgusted. Some didn't renew their season tickets.  Even though we pay the same as people in other cities, it feels like we aren't considered to be important enough to get the "real" leads.

My bigger pet peeve is that we have a theater with fabulous acoustics, yet everyone has their mics and it's all mixed and comes out through speakers on the sides of the stage.  I much prefer real sound. I just don't get as taken in from the sound in a box.  On the other hand, I heard some older ladies who were so pleased because they could hear every word. so ...

Oh and Aldonza hit some bad notes during "It's All the Same" But other than that. The set was fabulous, and all in all it was still an enjoyable evening at the theater

I read that David Hyde Pierce is on Letterman tonight, but my cable listing doesn't include him so we'll see.

I finished the evening watching last night's ROME which introduced us to Livia, soon to be Augustus' new wife, and the discovery of Antony's cheating on Octavius' sister with Octavius' mother and his eventual banishment to Egypt.

Only two episodes left, and, of course, we pretty much know historically what happens. What keeps it interesting is seeing how the fictional Vorenus and Pullo are placed among these historical characters. Certainly going to miss the gorgeous Kevin McKidd, Ray Stevenson, and James Purefoy once this show ends. At least Kevin has a pilot for a series next season.

I should say the understudy, Jonathan Baldwin, did a very good job. I don't mean to belittle him, but it's just the point that once in awhile it would be nice to get the people starring on tour.

I hope I'm more with this time change tomorrow.  My early rehearsal has been rescheduled, so that's good.  I did write another half-page, and will probably do the other half before writing Ye Olde Notes.  Now it's probably too late for a DVD.

Something that goes on with understudies in NYC is that an actor will have a 7-perf. week in his or her contract, and could choose which one he or she was going to miss almost at random.  That way, the result is that audiences won't be avoiding a specific performance every week, and will be surprised when they get to the theater.  And many people of course choose to stay rather than demand a refund since they're already there.  (At least at some shows, like Jersey Boys, they've simply made it clear that John Lloyd Young doesn't do Wed and Sat matinees - which seems like a more fair approach to the audience.)
