You are a cutie, DR Jorge -- and you finally took your hat off (guess the red one wasn't glued on after all) ...

Thanks and no, the hat wasn't glued on...that would be unseemly!

The tour of EDWARD SCISSORHANDS came through here a month or two ago, and while I didn't see it , every one of my friends who did see it said the same thing: dull as dishwater.

Well, it was no Swan Lake, but we found it hardly dull. (You do need to wear your "Ballet as Fable" hat, however; more whimsy than pulsing passion.)

Next came W.C. Fields in THE MAN ON THE FLYING TRAPEZE. Not one of his best comedies, but it also had some priceless sequences including a series of policemen giving him tickets for breaking driving and parking laws.

Kathleen Howard again plays his nagging, complaining wife, and Grady Sutton is a lazy buffoon once again.

Sorry, another question from the new guy:

Are Donald Feltham's radio programs archived and/or accessible on this site, or does each new weekly program simply replace the old?  I searched, but didn't see the old programs.  Thanks!

They are not archived.  Once a new show is up, the previous one is gone.

Well, I must be going.  I have some boxes to move out of my extra bedroom so that I can start sorting through it all...hopefully. ::) I'm putting it all down in my living room with the idea that it's all going to be in the way so I'll need to do something with it.  That's the plan, anyway.  Off I go!

I haven't had time (and won't right now either) to read all the postings, so have we heard if DP Sherlock of the Giant Paws made it home -- and how he (and his parents) are doing?  Lots of healing vibes to DP Sherlock!
Yes. Things went better than expected, but there is a long road ahead! (Imagine having to keep a seven year old Cason "quit and just resting" for six months.)

I ended my afternoon with the first episode in the season two DVD set of THE WILD WILD WEST - "The Night of the Eccentrics."

This was the first season the show was shot and shown in color, and oh, boy, is that color breathtaking! If it weren't for the 4:3 aspect ratio and the mono sound, you'd almost swear these shows were shot yesterday. Not a speck of dirt or a scratch anywhere in this transfer.

Great guest cast in this one: Victor Buono as the head of the crime organization, Richard Pryor (looking about 20 years old) as a ventriloquist, and Anthony Eisley as the fastest gun in the west.

But the biggest surprise for me was Paul Wallace (Tulsa in the original Broadway and movie of GYPSY) as the expert knife thrower. He had a rather lamentable British accent, but otherwise, it was the only time I've ever seen him apart from GYPSY, and it was a great moment of realization when I first got a good look at his face.

Associated Press

Quote
Arizona Principal Hesitates to Excuse Absences of GI's Kids
TUCSON, Ariz. —

When her husband comes home to Tucson on leave from Iraq, Keila Rios could face a dilemma she finds infuriating.

She plans to take their children out of school for a week to spend time with their Army dad.

But when she asked for makeup work they could do at home, she initially was told they'd receive zeros if they didn't go to class.

The head of the charter school they attend declared the absences inexcusable and told the Arizona Daily Star that Rios' children would not be allowed to make up missed assignments.

Keila Rios said Griffin told her that families pull kids out of class for all kinds of reasons — from beauty contests to Disneyland vacations — and said it wouldn't be fair to approve her request for makeup work when he's refused the others.

The Rioses are "awesome" parents and their children are exceptional students — but rules are rules, (the principla) said in a telephone interview Thursday morning.

"We have a policy saying we don't give out makeup work for unexcused absences. We can't pick and choose and give preferential treatment."

Of course you can "pick and choose" - it's called management.

Fire this dim-witted dunderhead!

Thanks, DR SWW! I will see if I can order that for her!

Hmm...  I still remember watching that movie with my parents... When I was a teenager.  Talk about uncomfortable.

My mom took me to that when it came out, because she LOVED it!

I didn't get into it but I loved the scenery. Greg and I travelled around Washington a few years ago and ended up in the town where it was shot. Very pretty!

DR Jose ~ You're the audition expert.  Our only experience is with civic and school theatres, so I was wondering do the professional theatres give you a courtesy call to say you haven't made it, or after a while if you haven't heard anything you can figure you're out of the running.

Unless you/he have/has an agent, there is usually no "courtesy" call.  No news is no job.

However, since they told DR Cason that it was down to him and someone else, and that they would need an extra day...

And re: this whole doody thing. I think the rumor is that austin has been "selected" to win not by the public but by those involved with the show. And max will be offered doody when he loses.

I would not be happy with that. But i would be okay if max lost legitimately and they did that.

As for what will fill the show tonight i think that rumor is that it will be those already cast for the broadway production. DR Jose is that what you were referring to?

6.  D.P. Robert Richardson.  Probably the hardest working guy on the set.  Very quiet.  Short, handsome.

Oh, I know him. Very nice guy! I didn't realize he was the DP.

He was married to a documentary filmmaker I knew, Monona Wali. He's shot most of Oliver Stone's films since Salvador, where he was hired because of his documentary experience. I love his work, although some times I resent having to sit through an "Oliver Stone film to see it!

Turns out there's another Edward Scissorhands ticket for tonight; someone bowed out at the last minute.  Free to any taker from HHW or a friend of an HHW-er.  Just PM me before 3 p.m.

Is it a good show?

DR Jennifer, if Austin has been "chosen" as Danny by the producers but didn't win legitimately, you don't think WE'LL ever know, do you? There is NO WAY they'd EVER make that public after stringing along the viewers who have been voting all these weeks.

DR Ginny, our friends at Dust To Digital have just released a sacred harp compilation that is getting some good reviews:

Maybe something for DH Richard's birthday?

It stands for "Long Play"; I'm surprised the initials don't follow your name, like Ph.D!

No, actually the initials after my name are PE, not LP.  In this case, they stand for the reverse of Long Play.
