In light of the recent Christie's auction, today's NY Times has an interesting op-ed piece on Stradivari fiddles here.

Thinking about purchasing one???

At the screening, I introduced bk to Mochael Roth, a friend who had done some music for our film. (He mostly does theatre music...) Since they both had worked with Alice Ripley, I mentioned that and they talked about her for a bit.

Later, at the restaurant, she called Michael from NY. I guess her ears were burning!

I haven't seen the hi-def version of Fritz in the shower yet, but I can say THE CLOSER in HD looks splendid!

I hope his shower scene makes the cut. Sometimes I'll put shots in promos from scenes that end up getting cut from the show for time, and that causes a bit of tsuris in the online.

This morning, I sat down to watch BRUTE FORCE on a new Criterion DVD I just received. I'd never seen the movie before, and it was worth the wait. Endlessly compelling and with a cast of character actors that just wouldn't quit, some of them in their first film. And I guess I gflanced away during the credits or they didn't register with me, but how surprised was I when Yvonne De Carlo and Ann Blyth turned up in flashbacks detailing how Howard Duff and Burt Lancaster got caught and sent to prison in the first place!

Glad to hear you liked BRUTE FORCE. I haven't seen it yet, but must do so. I do like Jules Dassin.

At the screening, Van Dyke Parks gave us his new card, which was beautifully printed on heavy card stock. It says:

Mr. Van Dyke Parks
Apologizes for his behavior on the night of
_______________________________
and sincerely regrets any damage or
inconvenience he may have caused.

with his email address at the bottom. Pretty funny!

I'm up, I'm up, after a fitful night of sleep because I had hundreds of words in my head and I kept thinking of things I need to fix and add to yesterday's writing - thank heaven for the note pad next to the bed.

Thanks for posting the link, dB, it is a very nice review (smiled at the reviewer referencing the Cohen Brothers regarding the use of the two actors for the letters voiceover...) Way to go, DR Edi (and your cohorts)!

I have to admit that I don't quite get the Cohen Brothers reference. Were both actors in one of their films together? I know they played brothers on MONK...

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were brief, and now it is time for you to post until the brief cows come home - they're finishing the moo right now.

I had to re-read this cause at first I thought you were making reference to some more "theme" underwear from DR ELmo to go along with those he sent Boo-Key for his Easter basket..."cows finishing moo" briefs to go with the "Bee Mine Honey Bear" boxers?

Yes, a sad story of Rod Lauren...and too bad too, as I would like to have interviewed him...but being behind bars in the Phillipines makes that rather difficult.

Here is Mr. Lauren in a scene from the Herman Cohen (!) film THE BLACK ZOO.

Lunchtime here in the Eastern time zone.  Typical of the day before a holiday, the library is overrun with men whose wives clearly have told them to get out of the way.  And these guys ain't happy - one called me a b*%#h.

And here is a more recent photo of Rod Lauren and his wife, actress Nida Blanca...of whom he is accused of murdering.
