Dear DR MBarnum....yes you shining jewel of the northwest, I still have your cell number, and it sits close to my heart most days....(it's where my pocket is on my shirt).  I guess it's a good thing I don't carry it in my pants.....

You want to make sure that you are very hungry that evening, so have a tiny lunch...... oh yes, tiny bites of almost nothing at all.

The director of UPTAs (Unified Professional Theatre Audtions) always makes sure to announce before each audition session begins:

"Now that we're about to begin, just a reminder: Please check your cell phones.  Please turn them "off", to "silent", or to "Enjoyment".

Two Wieners And A Salad - that's the title of my next novel.

"......oh Arthur, you've eaten............" (we all know the rest!), and I still love it.

I also did three (that is 3) sets of "Kimmel hands" in my car tonight, driving to various things.  Yes, the Brain CD was back in the player again. OY !!

Just finished watching a good French policier from 2004 called 36 Quai des Orfevres.  I wish the director wasn't so bloody enamored of Michael Mann, but the story is very good and the cast was great - more in the notes.  However, be afraid, be very afraid - on the imdb there are a lot of comments wondering why an excellent film with two powerhouse French stars that would appeal to an American audience could not get a release in the US.  Simple - it was bought by an American company who is - wait for it - remaking it - they just sat on it and it remains unreleased.  The cast for the American version? Robert De Niro and George Clooney.  I'm quite certain it will be awful in just about every way.

As for the first preview...

It went very well.  The cast seemed fresh, and the audience was very attentive and really seemed to "get it".  -And they also didn't seem to mind the lack of an intermission.  There were a few rustles at the two-hour mark, but they stayed in their seats until the end about 15 minutes later.

So is po-po some sort of Hawaiian dish?

dear DR Fred....well, from my adopted Jewish mother I learned years ago that the "pupick" (sp?) was the tummy.  And though not yiddish derived, the "po-po" is the pair of cute little butt-cheeks that one sits on.

Here endeth the reading......go with God.

And I have to say that John Kander has to be one of the nicest and most generous people I've ever had the pleasure of working with.  It's been great getting to know him over the past couple of weeks.  And I'm amazed at how much I've learned over the past couple of days just by taking notes for him.

And, yes, I will be taking notes for him at tomorrow night's preview.  I'm part of the "family" now.  :)

Fred... your mind really is wonderfully warped, and I'm glad I'm going to (hopefully) get to meet you in NY this summer.

When I read the first line above, I think I may have pee'd my desk chair! :)

Alas, I have to be out of the house tomorrow by 9:00.  I'm playing some Grease auditions tomorrow. It promises to be quite an interesting session.

DR singdaw - Is there any chance you could make a stop at that bakery sometime tomorrow and pick up a couple containers of those ginger snaps?  And then drop them off at Westport?   -Or at least give me directions to the place from Westport?

DR Cason - I'm sorry you had a bad audition experience.

And I find it kind of strange that the pianist could not play "Run Around Sue".  -You brought in the music in your own key, right?  I've come across some of the music for Mermaids and it's not hard, but it's also not really easy to play.  If the pianist could play the music from Mermaids, then s/he should have been able to play "Runaround Sue".  -Of course, with some of the younger pianists out there, if the song was written "before Wicked" or "before Rent", then there's a good chance that they haven't heard it before.  :-\
