For DR Michael S:

The World's Full of Girls
Music & Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim
cut from Follies

Ben:
The world's full of girls
Who are waiting to be kissed,
Waiting to be kissed,
Oops!  There's one I missed!

The world's full of girls
And I'm making up a list
'Cause I'm gonna kiss 'em
Each and ev'ry one.

And when,
And when I've kissed 'em all
And satisfied my yen,
What then?
What then?
I guess I'm gonna have to kiss 'em over again.

The world's full of girls
Who are virginal and pink,
Younger than you think,
How about a drink?

The world's full of girls
And before I start to sink,
I am gonna kiss 'em,
Each and ev'ry one!

[interlude]

Ben:
You, miss!
Girl 1:
Me?
Ben:
Yes, you with the Marilyn Monroe...
Girl 1:
Who?...
Ben:
Hairdo...
Girl 1:
Who the fuck is Marilyn Monroe?
Ben:
Yes, well then,
You, shall we blow the joint
And go out twisting?
Girl 2:
Go out what?
Ben:
I see your point.

Well, you then,
Pretty maiden,
Shall we sit and have a chat?

Girl 3:
I could go for that.
Ben:
Good, then.
Pretty maiden,
Shall we hasten to my flat?
Girl 3:
What a pussy cat!
Ben:
Now...

Girl 3:
I certainly am honored
That a gentleman like you
Wants to take a girl like me
Out for a date
When you could probably
Have anyone at all,
Like a star
Or a duchess--
Say, do you know Princess Grace?
I mean, well what's she really like?

'Cause I gather from your book,
Although I didn't really read it,
That you know a lot of big
And important celebrities.

That picture on the jacket
Doesn't really do you justice,
You're more handsome in the flesh
With all that graying in your hair,

But then I've always
Gone for older men
Which shouldn't hang you up,
But an awful lot of older men
Get terribly uptight,
Like out in public
When we bump into friends,
But if anything, it's me
Who feels embarrassed
But I'm not,
'Cause like I said,
How I'm honored
And so what if people think
I'm being kept or something?

Phyllis:
The world's full of boys
Who are waiting to be kissed,
Waiting to be kissed,
Well, if you insist...

The world's full of boys
And I hardly can resist,
So I'm gonna kiss 'em
Each and ev'ry one.

And when,
And when I've kissed 'em all
And satisfied my yen.

Ben:
What then?
Phyllis:
What then?

I guess I'm gonna
Have to kiss 'em over again.

The world's full of boys,
Ev'ry color, shape, and kind,
Raunchy and refined.
Look at that behind.

The world's full of boys,
And I'm sure you wouldn't mind
If I go and sleep with
Each and ev'ry one.

Good Afternoon!

Whew!

Back from the laundromat.   I decided to go ahead and head down the block to take care of the backlog of laundry I had to get gone.  Even though it cost me a little over a roll of quarters, there's something to be said about getting six load of laundry done - washed, dried and folded - in just about two hours, rather than the eight it would have taken me to get it all done here at the apartment.

I take it a roll of quarters no longer gets a house boy for the day?

IS Fox the ONLY TV channel you receive, then?

Re American Idol: I couldn't care less that it is on tv, but I don't really think it is an item that should be covered as news.

Well, since 77 million people watch -- roughly one-quarter of the population -- it probably counts as a phenomenon that newsrooms feel ought to be commented upon.

I can guarantee you that 77 million people didn't give two hoots and a holler about the white-tie dinner at the White House for Queen Elizabeth II.

And newsrooms are after ratings, too.  "Idol" sells advertising which allows them to have workable budgets.

Or, look at it a different way:  Only a handful of us post about it -- 5-7  of us, tops, I think.  Multiply that by 15,000,000, throw in 10 internet hits per person (77 million, that is) and at least some discussion by each viewer at school or at work or anywhere else out in public...and you have a cultural phenomenon -- something that more people are watching and talking about than anything else.

Last week 135,000,000 votes were called-in...at a nominal charge per call.

Good Afternoon!

My, my, my, I actually ended up having quite a productive day.  Laundry, e-mails, phone calls, errands, etc.  And now I get to reward myself by attending tonight's final dress of Encores Stairway to Paradise.  It's a review of revues, basically a tribute to the Ziegfeld Follies.  Should be fun.

So...

Any thoughts about Robin Thicke?

I do have to say, I like his new, "cleaner" look.  And I have to wonder if he avoided this look when his first album came out since he does look very much like his father, Alan Thicke.  -And even some people thought his first album was not that great, I liked it.  That one song where he samples "A Fifth of Beethoven" is one of my most-played tracks on my iPod.

In any case...

As always, the media is reporting whatever they feel like, with no real clew as to what they're talking about.  I've heard the fire was started by a homeless person who fell asleep while smoking (as posted here last night), I've heard it was a twenty-year-old idiot who dropped his cigarette - none of it substantiated by anyone.  They may as well add a giraffe from the zoo as long as they're flailing about.
Giraffes shouldn't smoke.  The stuff does nasty things to their throats.

According to MovieTalkies.com plans are being set for a Bollywood remake of CASABLANCA to star Shah Ruk Khan in the Bogart role.

I guess I had better hurry up and watch the original before this new one gets made.
You've never seen Casablanca?????

(Be forewarned - it's in black and white.  And none of the leads dance.)

I'm glad you called it merely a channel, DR Ron Pulliam, and not a news station.  It is definitely NOT a news station.

It is, perhaps, a propaganda machine.    :-\

The fellow I trained for wrangling today caught on to the job very quickly.  He's got a good attitude.  If the rest of the new wranglers (officiallly, the job is called "Parcel Pick-Up") turn out as well as he did, this should be a good summer.

The three wranglers remaining from summers past are another matter entirely.   To them, a job is an entitlement, not a job.  :P

My feet still hurt.

There was some relief, however.  Our entire stock of ice - yes, ice - had to be dumped ("recalled") because some of the ice at another store had plastic found inside some of the cubes.  I was one of the crew dumping the ice, on a section of the lawn between the store and the highway.  It was nice, how the cool from the ice took some of the ache out of my arches.

Then it was back to the hot pavement.  Oh, well.
