Good Evening!

Ah, it's definitely summer here in New York City!...  That "smell" is back in the air - in the streets, in the subway, even in some stores... :-\

But it was a great afternoon for a walk through midtown and through Central Park.  I finally walked through the recently refurbished Bethesda Terrace/Fountain.  That tin ceiling is beautiful!

...And in true New York City style, due to a film shoot or something like that, they had closed down 46th-48th street between 6th and 7th Ave right at the height of rush hour.  They were even restricting the pedestrian traffic.  Needless to say, the amount of car horns blaring was deafening.

From http://jimhillmedia.com

Disney Theatrical has big, big plans for "The Little Mermaid"

With rehearsals for Disney's next Broadway musical just about to get underway, Jim Hill raises the curtain a little. Revealing to JHM readers what he knows about the sets & costume design for this new show

Given that "The Little Mermaid" 's cast now has to learn to dance on roller skates plus master the 11 new songs that Alan Menken & Glen Slater has written for this show ... Well, these folks are going to need all six of the weeks that have been set aside for rehearsals (Which get underway shortly, by the way) in order to learn how to properly perform this new musical. Which is going to be quite a challenge, given that "The Little Mermaid" features on-stage storms, magical transformations and even full-sized whales swimming across the stage.

And I have to say, some of those 11 new songs are quite beautiful.  The big ballad for Prince Eric made me cry the first time I played through it.

Media report (amended) - the Netflix wrappers contained:

The Last King of Scotland, Letters from Iwo Jima, and The Illusionist, which we're going to watch tonight.

Nothing like an evening of light entertainment.  ;)

Stepped away for a mo, to get dinner in the oven.  Roast chicken (spatchcocked) with a cilantro/lemon/lime butter tucked under the skin, roast carrots, and store-bought polenta (basil/garlic flavor).

It's the second run with the chicken, which turned out great last time.  I want to see if I can recreate what I did last time.

Summer is here.

I got to work at eight this morning, and the place was already filling up with customers.  I mean, at eight in the morning, with two registers running, we already had lines!  I'd forgotten what a rush the summer can be.

And I do mean rush.  I got lucky, and didn't have self-check duty today.  Instead, I had people with full carts, sometimes two carts, spending two, three, four hundred dollars on what they wanted for the weekend.  For the most part they were all very friendly (there's always a couple of jerks, can't avoid them).  Irene, one of our newer checkers, started work shortly after I did, and I never had a chance to turn around and say hello until the end of my shift!  (We both laughed about that - she had been as swamped as I was, and she had one of the express lanes.)

It'll be like this all weekend, and sort of like this all summer.

DVD:
THE GREAT WHITE HOPE and BEWARD, THE BLOB

I wasn't aware that The Blob had a first name.

P.S. Mr. B:  THE GREAT WHITE HOPE is not one of elmore's videos

I have several signed Rozsa items, including the LP of Providence, one of my favorite Rozsa scores - Tony Thomas used to get them signed for me.  I was supposed to go meet Rozsa, who, at that time was bed-ridden, but then he died.

I also have a signed Friedhofer CD or LP (can't remember which), as well as other.  I'd have to go through all my Varese CDs to find them, but I used to like having signed things like that.

Well, I have a signed Kimmel (or two).

I am worried that Tomovoz might have selected TURKEY IN THE STRAW as my birthdate song!

I think we're going Monday. Tonight we'll either go to the concert up on the Square with friends, or go to a town an hour north to a lodge shoot skeet and party a bit.
