IN A LONELY PLACE is one of those Nick Ray movies that made him a darling of the French critics who gave him an auteur status far above what he  actually deserved.

Orson Welles once said, " The French ruin everything.  They say to you, 'You are one of the three greatest directors of all time!'  I nod and smile as they go on,  'There's you, John Ford,...and Nicholas Ray!'  It's always that third name that kills you."

*Sigh* I suppose it's sad that I know Bacall better from her cast recordings of Applause and WOTY than I do her movies.  I DO love her duet with the WSMA too!

What new option?

Upon returning to HHW, NEW is what you click on to go immediately to the spot in the discussion where you left off.

Oh, I didn't notice it had disappeared.  I thought you meant a new option not the "New" option.  Semantics.

Well, Dan, I broke my promise. I got back too late to listen to I HAD A BALL without having to turn it off to watch figure skating this afternoon. I will get to it after the skating.

I got THE DESPERATE HOURS for Christmas and am SO looking forward to seeing it again. I saw it a couple of years ago on AMC and was reminded how much I loved it (and the stage version is really good). I noticed the DVD is enhanced for widescreen TVs, so that makes me doubly happy.

Matt,

To tell you the truth, I haven't heard it - or anything else on vinyl - in years. (I know it's been released as a CD.) Who knows? Were we to listen at the same time, the balance could shift - you to a positive place, me to a negative one.

TCB you might find this google headline interesting: Hey, Tacoma, you're No. 1 on list of most stressed cities.

Lucky you can come here to de-stress. ;)

LOL.  I noticed it yesterday morning when there had been soooo many posts after I left for the evening, and I didn’t have a clue which page to begin on.

Lovely, lovely posts.  And what do I have here sitting on my table?  Lovely, lovely, amazingly lovely art from Mr. Harvey Schmidt.  Unfortunately too large to scan so I had them scan just the bottom half although that's basically the art with what's above it (what's missing in the scan) the stormy sky.  I love it.  I'm about to share it with you, although it's saved on disc in a weird way so I don't know how it will print here in a post.  I'll do a test momentarily.  Also, it's a low rez scan that doesn't do justice to the subtle and amazing color scheme.

Won't load - they saved it too big.  Maybe Craig can talk me through resizing it.

DR Danise: I have never heard of that Special K diet. Sounds yummy! Let me know if it works.

DR Jose: I am so jealous that your friends are gonna be on Trading Spaces. I would love to be on that show. Or at least get to be in the background to see what it's like.

DR Jed, I can't remember if I congratulated the god or not!

Re: miss saigon, I LOVE  that show. My favorite time seeing it was before it closed on bway with Lea Salonga and Ruthie Henshall. Totally fantastic.

Oh and I actually used to be obsessed with blood brothers as well. My friend and I were so addicted to the Petula Clark recording that we went to toronto to see it when it played there.

Because I'm on a moron dial-up it would take forty minutes to send via e-mail so that Craig or Jrand could re-size.  I COULD resize if my Dell Picture Studio software that conveniently resizes hadn't expired.

So, I took a pic with my moron digital camera and Craig has made it so I can post it.  Quality terrible, colors not so right, left and right sides cut off but you'll see the top half of the image at least - the title and author go in the sky area and the rest of the art just carries down, which is different than the first two books and I like this way better.

Hope you can tell.  The building letters on the right is the DOT Records building, which you can see beautifully in the full art.

Wait till you see a good copy of it - the detail is amazing!  It just captures the book perfectly, as all his covers have done.  I am blessed.

Wallich's at Hollywood & Vine.....where was the Capitol Records building from there?  And I am afraid to ask what is there now?  Condos or a parking lot?

Great cover (detail), BK.  You are lucky that you know so many muli-talented people!  I can't wait to see the whole picture and with the correct colors!
