This is a short work-week for me.  Today is Monday, but tomorrow is Wednesday, which means that Wednesday becomes Friday.

Then I am gone for almost a week.  Since I can't afford a laptop (or a vacation for that matter), it is doubtful that I can check in at HHW until next Tuesday.

Monday morning greetings!  Day 3 of the ALA conference and I'm glad it involves some sitting down for me - my feet are pretty shot.

Yesterday morning DH Richard and I went to a high Anglican mass, where one of his fellow Nashotah House students was one of the celebrants.  I then spent a couple of hours in the exhibit hall, went to a session on ethics in fundraising, and met 3 of my graduate school classmates at the University of Michigan alumni reception.  The four of us met Richard and had a lovely dinner together.  It was a long day, but productive and fun.

Today = 2 sessions on fundraising and a session where I have to go clap for a coworker who's receiving an award.

I am so excited that the Brain will play NYC - if it's late enough in Sept., we may be able to piggy-back being there with my Foundation Center conference Oct. 5-6!

Man of La Mancha---Badly filmed. Very dark dank visuals. Also could have been shot outdoors (except for the dungeon scenes) The stars were good but the film just didn't work

A Little Night Music---Terrible direction by Harold Prince. Didn't know where to place the camera or how to edit. Changing the location from Sweden to Germany. Have the same singer dub four actresses. Dropping Lliasons from the film

A Chorus Line--Making the Zack/Cassie a major story point. Giving Cassie "What I Did For Love as a love ballad and not to the dancers about dancing. Adding Surprise Surprise and replacing the Music and The Mirror with another song that was practically the same. Terrible camera work and an overblown finally that shouldn't have been.

Annie--Overblown. Badly directed. Removing the Christmas aspect of the story. The new songs. Sign, Dumb Dog and Let's Go To The Movie. We Got Annie wasn't too bad as it was originally written for the stage show. Adding The Asp and Punjab to the story which didn;t do anything. Dropping Annie inspiring FDR politically. The TV remake was better even if they dropped a lot of the plot to fit into 90 minutes.

Mame...Everythng BK said and more. The over soft focus on Lucy's closeups.

Lost Horizon---Never saw the uncut verison. Bad Bad dialogue. Trying to make it more modern also a mistake. The songs that remained were bad surprisingly because it's Bacharach and David. I think this is what broke them up

A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum--They rewrote a perfect script making it unfunny and dropping most of the songs.

Bye Bye Birdie---They refocussed the story on Kim because Anne-Margret (Who was too old for the role) was in it. Songs and plot points were rewritten to accomodate her. Someone said that the film should have been called Bye Bye Anne-Margret.

Brigadoon--They really needed to film this film outside. Have it shot all in doors took away the grandeur that would have added so much to it. See what it did for The Sound of Music.

DR FJL, there was a huge fire on the Atlantic City boardwalk yesterday, but I don't believe it should disrupt any strolling upon it today.

I think that Phantom Of The Opera (not my favorite of stage musicals) was quite good as a film. The adaptation completment the stage version as well as the story as we know it most other adaptations.

Hair--I would love to see an extended director's cut of the film. Milos Foreman did it for Cuckoo's Nest and Amadeus, why not for Hair.

BTW did you know that Betty Buckley was the singing voice for the girl sing Walking In Space?

Charlotte Rae's song was cut from the film.

Pet Peeve: The Soundtrack CD does not identify who sings what.
