Good morning!

The weekend with its cooler temperatures can't get here fast enough for me. Today, though, we're still in the mid-80s, and this morning, though I did open doors and windows and cut on the attic fan to cool the house down. It just wasn't that cool this morning - high 60s isn't really cool enough to adequately cool down the house.

Well, it's only in the mid-60s right now here in NYC, and only supposed to reach the mid-70s later today.  I may go ahead and wear a light sweater to rehearsal today.  :)

TV notes to note:

Director Norman Jewison does a Private Screenings interview with Robert Osborne tonight on TCM at 8 (repeated at 11). I'll be watching.

Hard to believe with all of his successful films that he's never won an Oscar. I think the Academy should think about honoring him with a special award. They haven't done this already have they?

I'm expecting the box set of BROTHERS & SISTERS in the mail today, so I'll be eager to jump into watching all those wonderful episodes again.

Also on the way: ROBINSON CRUSOE ON MARS, THE INTRUDER, EAT MY DUST, and a couple of POWER RANGER sets.

He received the Irving Thalberg award in 1998.  That's the only one.

He received the Irving Thalberg award in 1998.  That's the only one.

And that just honors his work as a producer, not a director (similar to the treatment of Alfred Hitchcock).

I'm gonna be out most of the morning...attending my agency's annual "Town Hall Meeting" (an opportunity for all the folks in my agency to gather in one location off-site and be treated to four hours of "what we do", "how we're doing it" and "what we need to do to make it better."

Light refreshments will be served.

I used to HATE this kind of teachers' meeting. The ones of us who were doing our jobs correctly and well were bored out of our minds, and the ones who could do with some pointers never took the hint and never improved.

So, it ended up wasiting the entire day for everyone.

I noticed that the film CRUISING is being released next week in a new special edition that adds a bunch of deleted scenes back into the movie. I wonder if that will make it any more coherent?

In the theatrical version which I saw, the murder mystery element was a complete and total mess, and the real killer was never really found. Plus the intimation was that Al Pacino had turned into a psychotic killer himself. As I said, a total mess.

I'll be looking forward to reading reviews of this one.

Have some things to tend to downstairs before cleaning up to go out to lunch (a belated birthday lunch from best friend John).

Me:  She wants to talk to you.

L O N G   P A U S E

Him:  Who is it?

I am trying to get Willie to get rid of that pause that kills the laugh.  But trying to convince him that the reaction to "Who is it?" is funnier than the wait for his line has become very difficult.

But I won't give up!  Comedy is a science.

The costume drama MR BK writes about in the notes is so familiar to me.  The person doing the costumes just gets an idea or finds something and figures "it will do" - and doesn't care.

I always do my own costumes when I am directing, or spend the "looking" day with the costumer.  I understand budgets and all, but I also know what is right and wrong.

We will see the Brain's face.....I think that will be a fine poster for DR MBARNUM's wall:

SEE THE FACE OF THE BRAIN!!!!

I found THE CAT BURGLAR neither taut nor tense....however, as DR MBARNUM writes, Ms June Kenney was terrific.

She has disappeared off the face of the earth - but those who worked with her said she was very serious about her work....she was a secretary who earned money for acting lessons and did parts on television and in a few B movies...and she was very pretty.

Thursday morning greetings.  It is so comforting to find so many heartfelt wishes for our family here.  Thanks this morning to DRs JRand, Jose, td, FJL, Ben, Singdaw, Dan(the Man), Ron Pulliam, and Miss Karen.

Special thanks to DR Elmore for the phone call this morning and for the lovely tribute posted here.  I will print that and share it with Richard and his brothers.
