It was sixty years ago today

Bruce Kimmel came to Earth to play

He filled all our lives with laughs and song

So come on now and sing along

I’d like to celebrate with you

Still going strong at sixty years

Bruce Kimmel - the reason we’re all here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good morning, all! A year ago today at this time, I was probably on a bus heading to LACC to finish the band parts for the opening of "The Brain From Planet X," cursing BK all the way for dragging me into it and praying to God that DRs Adrianna and PennyO would show up and help me finish. I recall that on our Dec 8 opening night I was spending the day in the green room putting cuts into the Curtain Calls and I was relying on the wonderful and beautiful DRs Adrianna and PennyO to help me assemble all the small band cues and to keep up my spirits with their intelligence, wit and charm.  There's nothing like a good laugh to get over the hurdle. Yep, another mess I had  been pulled into because it's hard to say no to BK.

And you know what? Every time I did say no (the CINDERELLA album, Liz Callaway's 70's recording for two nays), I wished later I'd said yes and been to the party. And what a great party my nine days in LA last year were! I miss it a lot, I miss "The Brain" enormously, and I'm sorry I'll miss the bash tonight.  I send warm hugs and affection to everyone there.

Thanks, dear dear dear friend BK! I hope today is as fantastic as you could ever wish for.

So what's on today's agenda? I was going to go to Toyland, but I think I'll work here on some reports and newspaper searches, maybe hit the NYPL around noon, and come back later to work on the chart for Ashley Brown.

I just did the math: BK, I am 445 days older than you.

Off to work.  I thought today was a national holiday.

Clear so far, but I think we are expecting the rest of DR CILLALIZ's snow later this evening.

Today: a board meeting. Hopefully it won't be too long, since half the folks are out of town.

Everyone grab your tap shoes (it will sound much better if they're from Brooklyn). Come on, come on -- everybody out on the stage. Don't be shy -- don't worry, DR Edi, you'll do just fine, we're gonna keep it simple... Come on, come on, hurry up, everybody! Tall folks on the back row, short folks in front.  (Clears throat) DR SingSong? ... DR SingSong! Back row, please...No, you can't be front row center...Because you'll be blocking DR Jane... DR Jose, you need to put the Levain cookies down....You can finish them when we're done...No, we don't have time for you to go get everyone a piece of Monkey cake right now. Laters!...  What is it now, DR Ron?  Yes, I know it's early and we'd all like to get back into our nice, warm beds, but we've got to do this for bk's BD... Yes, we realize you're taking a day of your vacation to do this, and we thank you ever so much, so please, in your spot...Okay folks, listen up: Snarkiness Begone! Places everyone! It's BK's Birthday! That's it! Get into the bd spirit! Line up, line up! Okay, it looks great. Now, it's Show Time! Ssssh! He's here! Let's all do The BK Birthday Tap (to the tune of The Brain Tap)!

"Tah-tah ...-tah-tah-tah-tah, Again!

Happy birthday, hap-hap-py birthday
BK!
BK!
Happy Birthday, ha-ha-py birthday
BK!
BK!

Today's the day -- the ol' man is turning sixty
Yes indeedy -- he's really turning sixty
Tap, tap, tap -- did we sing he's turning sixty?
Let's all do The Birthday Tap!
WOW!"

I notice that, even though I am so uncoordinated that I cannot walk and think at the same time, I was cooperative with DR Miss Karen in her tap dance efforts.

Yes, DRLaura, you were most cooperative -- so focused -- didn't whine once -- and did a great job! I know it was short notice, but I wanted it to be a surprise. And you HHWers didn't let me down. We did it! It was super! Yeaaaa!!

You HHWers are the best! But you have a great leader -- the Birthday Boy!

P.S. DRLaura ~ I'm sorry you couldn't take any photos, but that's the policy of the theatre, not mine -- "no photos during a performance"

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BK!!!!

And, Many, Many, Many (that's three "Many's"!) Happy Returns!

I know this day will be filled with lots of love and laughter, but, you will be doing one of things you love - your book-reading and signing - and you will also be surrounded by people who appreciate and love you.  Including your own personal group of internet acolytes! ;)

May you blow all the candles on your cake out at once, but, more importantly... Enjoy the Cake!

Happiest of birthdays, BK!

Warning:  Those Godiva pies taste lighter than air, but they translate into calories just like chocolate.  But they also give you the good feeling chocolate gives, so there's  a trade-off.
