BK, I was a bad, bad boy and came to the posts before reading the notes, so I just saw your mention of the fantastic Lobo/Buarque collaboration.  I believe if you check the credits (don't have time to right now), you'll see that Lobo & Buarque actually did both the music and lyrics together, but maybe I'm remembering incorrectly.  Lobo has written some exquisite theater music (as has Buarque), most notably, "Memorias de Marta Sare," which fans of a little band I like to call Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 will know as their most trippy recording ever, "Crystal Illusions," with that Stravinsky-inspired Dave Grusin orchestration.

I've mentioned this before, but Chico is Brasilian musical royalty--he wrote the tune "A Banda," which Herb Alpert fans will remember fondly, he is the brother of Miucha and thus the the Uncle of Bebel Gilberto and brother-in-law of Joao.

Agree with many of the "title songs" listed.

Has anyone mentioned A BOY NAMED CHARLIE BROWN?  A slightly sappy, sentimental song, but I really like a Rod McKuen sentimental number.

The title song for THE BALLAD OF JOSIE has for the most part stayed with me all these years, as has the title song for WHERE WERE YOU WHEN THE LIGHTS WENT OUT?, despite my having seen each of these films only once.

I simply ADORE Doris Day, but THE BALLAD OF JOSIE is one of her films I will NEVER own. TCM showed it over the past year, and as I hadn't watched it since its premiere, I thought maybe I may have misjudged it. I found it WORSE than I remembered.

So many wonderful title songs. In no particular order of preference:

GEORGY GIRL

GIGI

STAR!

I forgot these and HELP! and HARD DAY's NIGHT.  It's even more disconcerting since I saw Jim Dale last night and he wrote GEORGY GIRL!

Hello, everyone!

Just got caught up on the posts. I chuckled at Ron's "make-over". Good for you, Ron!

For Jane, re: Netflix:
I, too, have Netflix and love it. So much of what I like to watch is non-mainstream and Netflix has most of it. I also like being able to keep DVDs as long as I like--there are some things that I need to be in the mood for. I am fortunate to have an excellent video-rental store nearby, Video Vault. They have loads of classic movies, plus a fair amount of the British stuff I adore. The owners and staff are very knowledgeable and are open to customer recommendations. They are a joy and have become good friends. Netflix provides DVDs that Video Vault doesn't carry, and Video Vault is great for those times when my next Netflix DVD hasn't yet arrived. Also, remember that not every movie has gone to DVD and Netflix only carries DVD. As others have mentioned, I've saved myself from purchasing a DVD I didn't care for by renting it first.

Must be off to run errands. It's also half-price day at Video Vault--and I always make good use of that!

I know I had a reason for popping on at this time (just before lunch, actually), but it's gone clean out of my head.

I had some deep, profound, significant thought to share with you all, and now it is like a wisp of mist drifting into direct sunlight...evaporated all to hell.

Oh, well.

COOL HUNTING
Quote
Earnest Sewn and French footwear company Repetto are collaborating for limited-edition eco-friendly shoes as part of Barneys "Greencaste" line. Together they enlisted Cone Denim, the country's oldest denim factory (and the same one that's behind Loomstate's green jeans for Barneys), to ensure a 100% organic product. In fact throughout the entire weaving process, starch is the only addition to the natural fiber.
