BK, I was a bad, bad boy and came to the posts before reading the notes, so I just saw your mention of the fantastic Lobo/Buarque collaboration. I believe if you check the credits (don't have time to right now), you'll see that Lobo & Buarque actually did both the music and lyrics together, but maybe I'm remembering incorrectly. Lobo has written some exquisite theater music (as has Buarque), most notably, "Memorias de Marta Sare," which fans of a little band I like to call Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 will know as their most trippy recording ever, "Crystal Illusions," with that Stravinsky-inspired Dave Grusin orchestration.
I've mentioned this before, but Chico is Brasilian musical royalty--he wrote the tune "A Banda," which Herb Alpert fans will remember fondly, he is the brother of Miucha and thus the the Uncle of Bebel Gilberto and brother-in-law of Joao.
