Listening to the revival cast recording of The Pajama Game produced by Mr. Harry Connick, who should leave the producing to others who know how to do cast albums.  It is no mean feat to make a twenty-two piece band (expanded from the show's twelve) sound like eight.  And then there's Mr. Harry Connick the star of the show, and I'm sorry and apologize to his fans everywhere, but if I never have to listen to this cut-rate Sinatra wannabe again it will be too soon.  If I want to listen to Sinatra I'll listen to Sinatra.

If I want to listen to Sinatra I'll listen to Sinatra.

But if you want to do a new recording......

A new recording with a Sinatra wannabe?  I don't think so.

I do like the score of The Pajama Game, and I think I'll play the real cast album next.  Also, really not impressed by the reduced orchestrations by Dick Lieb and Danny Troob.

Surely a good producer could bring out some originality :)

One has the feeling that Mr. Connick thinks he is original, even though all one has to do is listen to know he spent his entire young years listening to and imitating not only Mr. Sinatra's phrasing, but his unique pronunciations and way of singing vowels and consonants.

Isn't it funny - this Town Without Pity fellow came home directly after lunch and searched the show here - I hope I wasn't too unkind.

Also, he told me that the factual mistakes re films and years were actor mistakes, as this fellow is a stickler for accuracy.

Oh, what a lazy day it's been around here.
I don't think I stuck with any task I started more than 15 minutes before getting completely distracted and abandoning it.
I was very bad today!

I like Harry Connick, Jr. as a piano player, but, not much as a singer.

DR BK, you could listen to the Ron Raines recording of THE PAJAMA GAME, featuring your friend Judy Kaye. . .

I'm sure I lunched at dear reader Jeanne Murphy's house.

And did she serve tuna salad sandwiches?  :)

Just returned from a very upscale and elegant restaurant in tony Greenwich, CT.  I had a split pea soup to start, presented very chicly [is that a word?], followed by swordfish and scallops, followed by a chocolate soufle.   Yummers!

Did anyone see the revival?  Did it play better live?  Michael McKean has none of the personality or fun of Eddie Foy in the original.
