My next sitcom pilot will be about a lawyer, loosely based on someone here that we all know and love, who always wins his court cases by winning over the jury with clever song parodies.  :)

Then after a dinner at the Food Court at the mall across the way, I went ahead and stuck around for the sneak preview of...

27 Dresses

It doesn't open officially until January 11, 2008.  In any case...

Yes, it's a "chick flick", but it's a chick flick with a lot of heart.  At least I thought it had some heart to it.  Katherine Heigl plays a perpetual bridesmaid, who suddenly finds herself planning the wedding of her younger sister.  Alas, her younger sister just happens to be marrying the Katherine Heigl's (at least her character's) boss.  -Who she also happens to be secretly and hopelessly in love with.  Then you add James Marsden to the mix, and, well... You'll have to see for yourself.  ;)

The movie felt a little long to me, but it all worked.  And I have to say that Katherine Heigl gets to wear some truly stunning dresses in this movie - as well as some hysterically fun and funny bad ones.  -Thus the "27 Dresses".

-And on a personal note... Can James Marsden get any HOTTER?!?!?!?!?!?

I thouoght so, too, when I saw the trailer at SWEENEY TODD the other day. James Marsden is, for me, THE "it" man in films at the moment.

Oh...

And "27 Dresses" was filmed in New York City.  There were some great location shots which turned the movie into a sort of Valentine to the Big Apple for me.

Next, I watched once again HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX on Blu-ray. When I watched it the first time last week (or was it two weeks ago?), it was during the day. Tonight with my den completely darkened, the HD transfer looked stunning - sharp, crystal clear, and with wonderful detail.

Oh...

And the scenery in "Water Horse" was quite stunning and beautiful too.  And "they" did a great job of "combining" the location shots of New Zealand to look like the location shots of Scotland.  The Loch looked magnificent.

I ended my evening rewatching a film I've been trying to get to for months to see how it looked on the new TV: THERE'S NO BUSINESS LIKE SHOW BUSINESS. I let the Blu-ray player upconvert it this time, and it did look quite wonderful. I skipped around to the big numbers, but still didn't have time to get to them all. Marilyn's "Heat Wave" was as far as I got.

Of course, no episodes can be taped until the writer's strike is over.

Listening to the revival cast recording of The Pajama Game produced by Mr. Harry Connick, who should leave the producing to others who know how to do cast albums.

The director who wants to take over the Johnny Mercer film mentioned that he would like to use Mr. Connick as the narrator.

Never heard of The Murphy House, although I'm sure I lunched at dear reader Jeanne Murphy's house.

I see BK beat me to the punch. This is what happens when you post before catching up.

How about a clever name for that phenomenon?

Avg ticket price of GREASE is $102.96?  "Redic" - as Velma would say.

Redic indeed!  Or course, the average price for Jersey Boys still hovers around $128.00!  -Which means that none of their seats are sold at a discount, and that they still do a good business in the "Premium Seats" too.

As for Grease's average ticket price for last week.. Well, that's quite interesting too, especially since the attendance is listed at 80%.  -And they were on TKTS too.  So, I guess they also had a bunch of "Premium Seats" sold too.

Since most theatre's raised their prices to $125.00/ticket last week for the Christmas week rush, that probably contributed to their "high" average price per ticket.  Alas, the regular top ticket price is now $120.00 or $110.00 (plus theatre restoraton fees), so...  *And some shows will be going up to $125.00 for good starting in January.

-Yes, $125.00 is a lot of money, but I'm still amazed at how some of the road houses (the Pantages in LA, the Kennedy Center in DC, etc.) are charging more for their "regularly" priced orchestra seats.  The Kennedy Center Opera House now tops out at $165!  And I still remember seeing Hairspray at the Pantages four years ago, and that top ticket was $150!

I don't know about Clay Akins, but Clay Aiken will be starting in Spamalot in a few weeks in NYC.  -And for some strange reason I want to see the show again.  I guess it's what you'd call "The Bad Accident Effect".  ;)

Well, my Sweeney Todd soundtrack CD plays fine on my work computer, both CD players here at home, and my eMac.  We're curious to test it in DH Richard's car.

How old is your car/CD player, DR Ginny?  Some older players get confused by some newer discs especially if they also have some embedded computer content on them, or if they have a lot of music/time on them.  I have an old portable CD player that will not play any CD that has more than 60 minutes on it.

Well, he might actually be OK, but I prefer to use no narration whenever possible and let the interviews tell the story.

But I guess it's not up to me, at this point.

I've spent the last 6 hours making turkey carcass soup from the smoked turkey my brother bought for Christmas. I don' know how it will taste with a smoked turkey. I hope it is worth the time/effort.

My best friend is coming through town and it's her soup recipe so she will be a good test audience!

Whether he's 24 or 34, James Marsden made a smashing Corny Collins in HAIRSPRAY, has gotten wonderful reviews for his work in ENCHANTED, and looked lovable and huggable in that trailer the other day. I also have very fond memories of his work in the X-MEN movies.

*I* think he's great.

NY POST - A YEAR AGO
Quote
* ROW Z AT $400 A POP

January 5, 2007 -- TIME to peer into the Shubert Alley crystal ball to see what 2007 has in store for the theater and, to quote the great Elaine Stritch, "all the charming people in it."
...
Producers are in love with premium-priced seats. At some hit shows, premium seats, which retail for between $250 and $300, have crept all the way back to row U.

Screams one ticket broker: "How dare they cut into my business!"

Premium tickets speed up recoupment, level out ever-escalating weekly production costs, and make producers and creators of hit shows seriously rich.

The problem, though, is that Broadway has become like the rest of Manhattan: If you're not rich, you don't belong here. The orchestra section at "Mary Poppins" looks like an assembly at Chapin or St. Bernard's. Middle-class and working-class families have pretty much been priced out of the market.

Prediction: Orchestra sections at hot shows in 2007 will become the equivalent of luxury boxes at the Garden. Almost every seat will be "premium," with prices shooting up to between $350 and $400. Broadway audiences will be richer - and whiter - than ever.
