Good morning!

Near-freezing this morning but getting into the 50s today (barely). Not so the rest of the week which promises to be our coldest of the season.

I agree with DR td on two of the sports pictures:

RAGING BULL

FIELD OF DREAMS

And, of course, the HARRY POTTER movies feature their own sport, but I don't think they actually qualify in today's TOD.

I have an unusual day today. My friend Gregg comes in from St. Louis mid-afternoon and I'll be getting him at the airport. Then, we'll head to a Chinese restaurant for dinner.

So, my day will be split and my time at HHW a bit different today.

The newspaper may have wrong information, but it looked like there are new episodes of LAW & ORDER: SVU and BOSTON LEGAL tonight. On New Year's Day? Well, I'll be setting the DVR to pick them up, I guess. I'd like to see the Jerry Herman/PBS special "live."

Before I leave for the airport, I'll be watching the bonus features on THE NAKED PREY disc. That should finish me up with it today, and then I can get back to that masterpiece TV series that is ROB & BIG.

Good Morning, once again!

I made it to the airport in no time flat from Steve's place, so I decided to grab a mocha and a Blackberry White Chocolate Scone from Caribou Coffee and enjoy them leisurely before making my way through security.  And once through security, I started catching up on the rest of the posts from last year night.

DR George - As for your page-loading problems last night... It could have just been heavy traffic on the various computer servers.  I could tell the speed was a bit slower at Steve's last night - I guess a lot of people on the internet at midnight.  -And it also took me a few minutes to not get the "All Circuits Are Busy" message when I tried calling my family after midnight.  However...

Your computer may be cache-ing your temporary internet files on your new external hard drive, and/or it may be accessing any art work and other files you have saved "locally" that you've uploaded to HHW.  Check your browser browser preferences and check to see how much hard drive space you have set aside on your main disk for disk caching.  Bump it up a couple of megs or even a gig and see if that helps your page load time.

FIGHTING TOMMY RILEY - I rented this from Netflix and enjoyed it tremendously.
Quote
Former boxer and washed-up trainer Marty Goldberg (Eddie Jones) could get one last hurrah in the form of a raw young fighter (played by screenwriter J.P. Davis) who displays championship potential. But the novice pugilist also has a self-destructive streak and a troubled past that could sink his fledgling career. Each encumbered by heavy emotional burdens, Marty and his protégé must learn trust and the value of partnership to prevail in the ring.

Eddie Jones gives a memorable performance.

Good morning, all! THE NUTCRACKER ended about 11:50, and so did I.  Last night I watched the 1968 broadcast of the Royal Ballet in a "version" by Nureyev. I must say that, while the original ballet makes a mess of ETA Hoffmann's story, Nureyev's playing several roles and mucking about with the score screws up the storytelling more. The later Royal Ballet production by Peter Wright from the 1980s is much better, but I'm still partial to Balanchine's, even if he destroys the construction of the final pas de deux.  If it weren't for Balanchine in 1954, there wouldn't be the plethora of "Nutcrackers" around December that there are today.  Unfortunately, most of the choreographers lack the genius of Mr B.

So, Happy New Year to all of you! I'm glad the festivities on HHW went on endlessly and extremely happy that I did not

This morning, I need to close out my account books and then work a bit on "The Lady Of the Slipper." Around 2:15 or so, I shall wend my way southward to a New Year's Day Event  chez DR FJL and Skip, something I've been looking forward to all week.

Well, my flight is about to board.  I was able to get an exit row seat, however, since I'm flying on a puddle jumper, I don't really gain that much more leg room.  But just like they say in India, "Every centimeter counts."
