A couple of days ago, we (at the library service center) received a shipment from one of our major vendors.  The invoice had one title, five paperback copies ($6.99 list price per copy) and those five books were in the shipment and processed correctly...our barcode was on the front cover and our library name and address were stamped on the title page.  That's fine.  BUT also in the shipment were another three books.  All three were processed like the paperbacks, but we didn't order them and we weren't billed for them.  The books were "Consumer Sourcebook" and they're $400 each!!  And we got THREE copies of them!!  It isn't our mistake and we don't have to pay for them.  We're also not keeping them.  I called and the rep on the phone, when I told her that they were $400 EACH, sounded quite agitated.  But she said that she'll send a mailing label to return them.  This has certainly happened before, but NEVER with $400 books. :o

Sounds like the Gateway people, doesn't it?

And Coconut Cake and Chocolate Pudding Pie too (at least).

I've been a coconut cake lover ever since the Brooklyn Diner.

But I doubt that there's coconut cake like theirs anywhere else. It was to die for.

Oh, and BK mentioned the Modern Jazz Quartet in the Notes today. I used to love that group and listen to them often. That was ages ago. Back in my LA days.

I can't believe that not one of you had a comment on me naming George W. Bush the greatest President of all time!

Either that, or it's proof that no one reads my posts.

I read it, TCB. I was just relating to the $800, which would come in quite handy right about now.

Several years ago when we received the $300 tax rebates I put mine into my checking account. Bad idea. I'd much prefer to do something specific with it and know where it went.

And are you coming north to see THE LAST STARFIGHTER?

Feb 10 through 17 in Los Angeles

I don't know about THE LAST STARFIGHTER..was the date mentioned yet?

Yes, I know Cakelove quite well.  :)

I like their German Chocolate Cupcakes, but I actually don't like his German Chocolate Cake - well, New German Chocolate Cake - whatever he calls it.  There's something about the ratio of frosting to cake.  And the frosting is also tweaked a bit from the traditional recipe.

However, most of the other cupcakes.. :)  -But I do wish they didn't raise so prices so often.

*And I always have to remind and remember that since they sell a good portion of their baked goods out of refrigerated cases, you have to let them sit out for a while to come to room temperature to full enjoy their flavors.  The cold definitely mutes some of the non-sugar flavors.

cakelove

*And if anyone has seen the program "Sugar Rush" on The Food Network, the host, Warren Brown, is the founder of Cakelove, as well as the creator of all their goodies.

I continued listening to the audio commentary on THIS SPORTING LIFE. David Storey must be pretty old (I haven't checked), but he talks very slowly and deliberately. Though he certainly has interesting information to impart, his manner of speaking is a little daunting. Thankfully, he's not the only speaker.

And now to begin my Bollywood viewing for the loooong weekend..tonight it is KOI MERE DIL MEIN HAI. I think it is a romantic comedy, but am not sure...I simply rented from Nehaflix because I wanted to see the actor Rakesh Bapat, who stars. I think he might become a new favorite.

Of course this pic looks sort of like that onion foursome that TCB was talking about.   8)

Then, I put in disc 2 in the set. First up was a 2004 documentary made for Scottish TV on the life and work of Lindsay Anderson. Good information and interviews with Malcolm McDowell, Richard Harris, Brian Cox, Helen Mirren, Gavin Lambert, Martin Scorsese, and others. Well done and quite informative.

Next came Lindsay's first-ever film, a 1948 documentary on the production of conveyor belts called MEET THE PIONEERS! Not the most auspicious debut in screen history.

There was also an interview with Lois Smith (no, not the American actress) who produced MEET THE PIONEERS! with her then-husband. She and Lindsay went on to be best friends for the rest of his life.
