I didn't get to bed last night until 1:00 AM, and since I had to rise early for church this morning, I am now on my way to a blissful afternoon nap...

Glad to hear that DR George is feeling a bit better.   :)

Thanks.  I am too. ;)

It's a fabulous show, but who know how much CBS is going to cut out of it to make it network TV-ready? Better to rent the DVDs of Season 1.`

If only some of the gory stuff is cut, then I think we will be ok watching on CBS.  If we don't like the show I'll order it from NetFlix & give it a second chance.

Will you be watching the edited version to compare?

Thanks for the travel home vibes! I am eager to get home and see Dog Bosco and Freddy. My co-worker/dog sitter Brenda has been sending me some hilarious photos of Bosco all week which I will share upon my return.

 :D

Safe and easy traveling!

Not to say I told ya so, but I told ya so, BK (re:  The Smiling Lieutenant).  Monte Carlo is the most dated of the four (and also the earliest, perhaps no coinky-dink then).  I had a really hard time understanding MacDonald's high register stuff.

MONTE CARLO does not predate THE LOVE PARADE.

The overcast skies drifted away and we now have a spring day here. What an amazing winter this has been.

We didn't get a drop of rain.

No, I don't think I'll rewatch it. BROTHERS & SISTERS is on opposite, and really, I just don't have the time to rewatch, especially since the shows are SO vivid in my head. I read that CBS was far more lethal with the language cutting than with the gore (they are the network of CRIMINAL MINDS and the CSI shows, after all).

But I do hope you two like it. I had never seen a series quite like it when it first premiered, and I found the tension almost unbearable as it proceeded through its season. The second season is even more intense.

As I cooked and ate lunch, I finished watching FLAMINGO ROAD with Joan Crawford. Apart from a scratch or two and some dirt specks not picked up in the digital cleaning, it looks much improved from the laserdisc and even the DVD-R I recorded off TCM a year or two ago.

Next, I watched BEOWULF. Motion capture animation has progressed greatly since THE POLAR EXPRESS, and this was much more lifelike with the men in the story. There are shots that you would absolutely swear were live action and not animation.

For some strange reason, the animators have not aged or blemished the women in any way, so they look much less real, more like porcelain dolls when they enter and act in a scene.

Since the movie was filmed with 3-D in mind, there are a plethora of shots specifically for 3-D effects. Even in this standard def 2-D version, the impact is very powerful. I'll bet the HD-DVD version is eye-popping because the sDVD version I watched today is flawless in every respect - picture and sound. A really fun comic book style version of the Old English legend.

In fact, I enjoyed it much more than SPIDERMAN 3, probably its closest film relative from last year.

I watched three of the bonus featurettes on the disc. The "making of" ran about 23 minutes. The creation of the monsters featurette was about 5 minutes, and the original legend of Beowulf and how it was adapted for the screen was about 6 minutes.

I should be able to finish the rest of the bonus features (there are four more items in the list) when I go back down. We'll see how much time I have left before COLD CASE starts.

After church, Richard and I went to Daybreak, a breakfast/brunch/lunch place in Hyde Park.  My choice was Prairie Pancakes - they had pecans, almonds, and oats mixed in the batter.  Very crunchy.

Guess I'll write for a little while, and then I'll head down to clean the guest bath, put away my folded laundry, and then resume viewing for the evening.

DR Matt - Is Neil Gaiman involved with any of the special features on BEOWULF?

Right you are--I was confused.  Too many boxed sets lately.  Did WWI or WWII come first?  ;)

I just saw Mr Steve Kanaly as Pretty Boy Floyd in DILLINGER on the Retro Channel.  He looked much different in Mr BK's photo.....and he was wearing a terrible toupee, too.

Oh...sorry to hear about Perry Lopez.  Yes, DRMBARNUM he worked a LOT.....and was a CLOSEPERSONALFRIEND of Mr James Dean.

Which TV series are you most looking forward to the return, following the strike; and which series have you decided you can live without?
