Well the election news went as expected.....Judith Carson's grandson was elected to fill her space....as the most absent member of congress ever....I am sure he will uphold her tradition handsomely.

And no Carson family member now needs to fear being thrown off the government payroll....at least for awhile.

I grew up using "sir" and "m'am" with all adults, and I know when I taught I really APPRECIATED the children who used it with me.

I didn't buy Dangerous Crossing....which seems to have been filmed on leftover sets from "Titanic".....

And I seem to remember it's one of those Lady on a Train/Flightplan type plots that end up not making much sense.  8)

I began my evening by listening to the audio commentary on the BEE MOVIE DVD. Much too crowded with too many people, they got sidetracked a lot, love everybody connected with the movie, and talked about some missing scenes, some of which were not in the deleted scenes elsewhere on the disc.

DR RLP I also got a Black Widder in my mailbox today, and watched it.

Oh gees! I thought you meant a black widow spider as I read this.  Of course I doubt they would be in Indiana any time, let alone in March.  I used to see them in Phoenix quite often

I also watched all of the second disc of bonus features. There were actually some good things on it. There was a very informative trivia game on bees where I learned that the one color bees can't see is red, and that bees have five eyes and no ears.

Some other stuff wasn't all that great, and there was a shameless plug for the other Dreamworks animated films called "jukebox" which was animated moments from the other seven movies they've done (nothing from ANTZ) to advertise that they were available on DVD.

Next, I had about 40 minutes before 9 p.m. (when I had decided I'd start watching my recoding of IDOL), so I put in the 1951 SHOW BOAT and watched it upconverted. The color is VERY saturated (perhaps just a touch too much), but I'd rather have that than undersaturated Technicolor.

I'll continue watching it tomorrow while I cook and eat lunch.

Then I started with IDOL. I agree with the others. For the first time, it really did seem like a competition where people were really bringing the best they had to offer to the table. That said:

Carly was the best by a very wide margin. A total pro with superb vocals and stage presence that makes the rest of them look clumsy and amateurish. She just knows how to move to the music and how to use her arms and the mic beautifully.

#2 for me was David Cook. He was excellent, gave a nice rock vibe to the music, and overall had real presence on the stage.

I hate to admit it but I finally halfway enjoyed Amanda Overmeyer tonight. I think that vocal style will get very tired before much longer, but I did feel she sang in tune tonight and did a better than average job entertaining.

Michael Johns had a nice rendition, too.

Most horrible for me tonight was Jason Castro. I thought he was simply dreadful with a falsetto that didn't work part of the time (not the first time that's happened) and a really forgettable rendition of the song.

David Hernandez, my favorite male singer until tonight, was way off the mark with a song that had notes too low for him and a breathlessness about him that made him sing off pitch often and made him try too hard to overcompensate.

Both of the first two women (Syesha and Ramiele) seemed scared to death and gave poor performances. And, of course, David Archeleta forgot his lyrics in a couple of places and was just way out of his element. He took the criticism well, however, so he should be safe.

So, I'd like to see Jason go, but he seems to be a favorite of the swoony preteens so I'm picking either one of those two girls or David Hernandez to leave tomorrow night.

JERICHO had another smashing and suspenseful show. Again, some real surprises and great drama.

However, the imbeciles at my local CBS affiliate forgot the flip the HDTV switch at 10:49, so I had to watch the last ten minutes of the show in SD rather than HD. They'll get a sassy note from me.

Did a nice interview tonight with actor Robert Brown, costar of THE FLAME BARRIER (1958) and Roger Corman's TOWER OF LONDON (1962). He also starred in the tv series HERE COME THE BRIDES and a the short lived TV show PRIMUS.

He worked on Broadway in the late 40s and early 50s with the likes of Dame Judith Anderson, Helen Hayes, Ann Harding, Lotta Lenya and John Garfield.

Fun guy to chat with!

Back from our read-through and more about it in the notes - the only real problem is that I was reading General Mills and the script I was using nobody has bothered to update for a year, so it was very confusing.
