Perhaps Mr. Kilmer would be available for PHANTOM.

Anyone wanting a hilarious recap of Lost, go here and watch the 4 1/2 minute video (I think you have to watch the other 2 first):

http://abc.go.com/primetime/lost/index?pn=index

I LOVE that recap.  It actually came out right before the current season started.  You can download it for free for/from iTunes.

*And you just have to double-click on the recap link for it to start.  Otherwise, it will start with the most recently uploaded video.

I'm developing a new musical.  It is set to co-star David Hasselhoff and Val Kilmer.    :)

The stage version of "Dumb and Dumber"?

Or maybe Tan and Tanner?

Thanks for all the Congrats and virtual pats on the back...  I'm not counting my chickens before they hatch - at least in regards to the possible pit piano position... It was just nice to play some wonderful material for some wonderful actors in front of a very discerning and knowledgeable panel of people who appreciated my contribution to this part of the process.

What a full evening of viewing I've had. I can't believe I've crammed so much into a single evening.

I started by finishing the documentary on the Hollywood moguls. Really nothing in it I didn't already know, but a concise little summary for those who might not know the facts.

Boring evening of TV.  Waiting for "Criminal Minds" to start.  I already know about "Idol" and "Big Brother" results.  Crap doodle.

Next came a documentary on Irving Thalberg. Again, nothing in it I didn't already know, though I'm not sure I ever saw the clip of him accepting the Oscar for MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY. Since he didn't take a producer credit on his films, it's hard to know which MGM films he produced after Mayer brought in other producers in the 1930s.

The last of the documentaries was on John Ford. SOme good information, but it concentrated on his career from 1939 on rather than on the time period portrayed in the Indy show (1920). Still, some good clips from some of his most famous works.

The 10th disc in the set contained two interactive sections (DVD-ROM) plus a one hour lecture on the history that had been contained in all of the documentaries I had spent the last five days watching. I let the lecture play but I busied myself on the laptop downstairs for much of the lecture.

Then I watched last night's BOSTON LEGAL. Alan facing the Supreme Court. Of course, it was preposterous with him lecturing the judges (not unwarranted, but I suspect he wouldn't have gotten many of these words out before the session would have been canceled). The Jerry Espensen story was also rather silly and a waste of time.

Next came the beautiful, very moving conclusion to JOHN ADAMS. I loved it, and I loved the entire miniseries. Highly recommended for those without HBO when the DVDs come out in a couple of months.

But of course it was many years ago.....and he was a mere slip of a lad.  We were partners for some kind of monolog, and he did something from The Breakfast Club....very good actor....  ;D

And then tonight's LAW & ORDER. A good episode with Jesse Martin's last appearance on the show. I'll miss him.

I was sure the little girl who was being baby-sat would turn out to be his daughter, but it wasn't.

I did watch the IDOL results as well. Not the one I thought would go home, but since I didn't think this person would win anyway, might as well be this week as any other. But there were at least two other singers who deserved more to go home tonight .

So...

Since it was warm outside today, and since I was playing an audition at the casting office, I went ahead and dressed down: shorts, t-shirt, light jacket.  Normally, we just do "pre-screens" at the office, so it's a very informal process and setting, well...

Due to a slight stall on the A-line this morning, I did not step foot into the casting office until right at 11:30.  And upon stepping into the small studio, I was "greeted" by the musical director/conductor, the book writer, the lyricist, the composer, the director (who happened to be Richard Maltby, Jr.!), two (well-known) producers, the lead casting director and the casting associate.  -Good Morning, To Me!  Well...

"The guys coming in today will be singing two songs from the show.  Why don't we go over them with you."

Of course, I was not sent the music in advance, neither was I advised to come in a couple of minutes early to go over the (new) music.  I sit down at the piano, look at the music, the composer comes over to sing along, I start playing...

"That's great!" says the composer.
"Were you really just reading that for the first time?" asks the director.
The lead producer - whom I've worked for before - gives me a knowing wink and a smile - then says, "Hey, I think we've found our pit pianist!"

Whew!

And then came the veritable parade of Broadway actors/stars.  They all started off with their own selections, then read two scenes, then sang the two songs (which I was still basically sight-reading).  I did end up playing the up-tempo song a bit fast for the first actor, but, all in all, I had a very good audition session.  And playing for those amazing actors with their amazing voices was a true joy!

Best of all, I get to do it all again tomorrow.

*And, you can bet that I'm going to keep the producer to his 'word' about me in the pit!  ;D

Wonderful news, Jose!!

~~~Vibes for the Potential New Gig!!~~~
ASK BK DAY
What was your favorite food as a child, that you would never consider eating now?
And what food did you hate as a child, but now eat on a regular basis?
I can't think of a favorite food that I loved then that I wouldn't love now.  Maybe brussel sprouts for the hated food that I now eat whenever it's put in front of me.
We ran into the Lakers game traffic on the way home so I had to get off the freeway and do surface streets - just what I wanted to do after a very long day.  And now I have ten minutes to write the notes, and then I have an hour's worth of notes for the cast and crew.  An interesting run-through tonight.
