I got my Santa Monica Style article back from the editor yesterday - I had sent it in by deadline more than a month ago - now they're going to press, and she needs a re-write by this Thursday... apparently, it's a little too highbrow for the audience... oy.

Those baby squirrels were fun to watch. I think they just came out of the burrow today.

And now, off I go. To work. Sheesh. (I remember how Maynard G. Krebs used to say that word - work... I guess he was more of an influence than I would like to acknowledge...)

Interesting tidbit:

Someone supposedly "in the know" over at CASTRECL says that Ethel Merman rehearsed, opened, and recorded Gypsy in the keys that you hear on the recording, but that all immediately thereafter all her songs were lowered at least a half step for the duration of her run.

I've heard that rumor before.

DANCING WITH THE STARS (yes, it is two hours; aren't former competitors coming back to perform.

Apparently including a pre-taped segment with Mario Lopez and the current cast of A Chorus Line!

This week's NEW YORK Magazine has a wonderful article about the forthcoming SEX AND THE CITY movie and sarah Jessica Parker.  I enjoyed it very much.

-Of course, the first part of my vacation will consist of cleaning, laundry and packing, but still... VACATION!!!

*And over the past few days, our freezer and fridge - but the freezer especially - has become quite odoriferous.  We've all been checking our food, but everything seems to pass the sniff test.  However, when I came home a little while ago, I could definitely smell "smelly refrigerator/freezer", so...

I think I'm going to go ahead and take out my big thermal cooler, put the contents of the freezer in their for a bit, and give the freezer a good wipe down.  Hopefully, that will help.

DR JoseSPiano, when do you fly to CA?

My flight leaves JFK at 9:25am (EST) tomorrow morning, and is scheduled to get into Long Beach at 12:30pm (PST).  -And I really think I'm going to forego the rental car, since there's no real reason to have it while I'm out there.  The couple of places I know I want to visit - meaning, "eat" - are all easily accessible from the subway.  -And since my friend's place it just a 1/2 mile from the Vermont/Sunset stop on the Red Line, I'm all set!

OH!

And after I was done with the callbacks this morning, I headed on down to Chelsea to get my haircut.  I was all set to be caught in the middle of the lunch hour rush, but when I got there, my favorite barber, Max, was outside on the sidewalk taking a ciggy break.  So, I walked in, sat down in his chair, and twenty minutes later.... Ah!!  :)

*And a few minutes after I had sat down, four more people walked in to get their hair cut - all in the timing!

...And I think I am just going to take the Metro into Los Feliz, mainly because I never realized that the Metro System went that far.  I also think that I'm going to challenge myself to do this vacation/visit "on the cheap".  I do have one or two possible splurge meals planned, but there are also a ton of meals I know I will enjoy out there for under $5.00.  As long as I get at least one In-N-Out Burger, and a French Dip from Philippe's (most likely Lamb, "double-dipped" with Bleu Cheese), I will be a very happy camper.

*And there's also a great little taco stand, Yuca's right near my friend's place that features Cochinita Pibil on the weekend - sooooo good.

**Oh, and he's also just blocks away from bk's beloved House of Pies, as well as the funky Fred 62!
