Oh, posh! Anyone who thinks DVD or Blu-ray or HD-DVD is the equivalent of motion picture film is NUTS. Film has four times the resolution of the best HD available right now.

The problem is with exhibition. Many folks in the US must make do with substandard projection, screen, and sound in theaters. (Not every theater is optimally equipped or run.) These things can be controlled better in the home and thus the viewing experience may be more ENJOYABLE in the home even when not equalling the finest quality presentations in theaters well equipped and maintained.

I have four more episodes of THE INVADERS to watch. Well, three episodes plus the complete pilot (which was cut down from an hour for broadcast).

I'd LOVE to be able to finish up with this today, but at this point, it looks more like tomorrow before I'll be done.

I watched KHARTOUM on DVD a couple of years ago. The biggest disappointment for me with the disc was that the entire frame wasn't represented. I bought the movie especially to have that Ultra-Panavision frame, and it wasn't there.

I also found the film pretty dull.

As for "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition"...

Yes, many of the inspections are planned weeks, if not months, in advance.  Since the building/remodeling of the new homes is on a very strict(!) timetable, that allows the producers of the show to give an exact window of time for the inspections to the proper authorities.  -Unlike under "normal" circumstances where an inspection can't be scheduled until the structure is ready - which, under "normal" circumstances, is never on schedule.  ;)

On other thing to keep in mind - Just because the house was ready for the on-camera reveal, does not mean it was ready to be moved into immediately after the taping.

Not really sure. I'd have to do some research on it.

From IMDB

Technical specifications for
Khartoum (1966):

Film negative format (mm/video inches):
65 mm

Cinematographic process:
Ultra Panavision 70

Printed film format:
35 mm
70 mm (Super-Cinerama)

Aspect ratio:
2.20 : 1 (70 mm prints)
2.35 : 1 (35mm Reduction prints)
2.35 : 1 (DVD release)
2.76 : 1 (negative ratio)

der Brucer

So, this newly restruck 70 mm print is different?

Surprisingly enough, I had a wonderful turnout for the auditions yesterday.  In fact I could cast the show with yesterday's people - although I still need one more male and one neighborhood boy......hopefully they will show up tonight.  It was very interesting to hear the play read.

Now - everyone is NOT there yet character wise, but all of them are workable.

I remember trying to watch THE INVADERS when it was on, I think on Tuesday nights, but it just didn't hold my interest....I would be interested to see if it would today.  I wanted monsters and spaceships from start to finish in my sci fi television shows.....

I remember that Joan Crawford was asked by Merv Griffin during an interview who of the actors working today did she consider had the "it" that had made Clark Gable a star.  Joan answered that there was only one and that was:  Roy Thinnes.
