I have a day with ZERO appointments. Yay! That means I have the day to catch up on all sorts of little things I've neglected. Much needed, believe me.

As for the Topic of the Day...

Basically anything in the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Modern Art, the National Gallery of Art (both wings), the Metropolitan Museum of Art, etc., etc...

TOD:

I, too, like the work of Helen Frankenthaler. I also like the work of many others, including that of my friend Jean Weinbaum, who is kind enough to send me baby watercolors from time to time. His work is abstract, but I also love good portraiture and other realistic works.

I left out "wife Dolly"!

Well, DR Jeanne, my before-work errands may have taken a little longer than 5 minutes, because I usually arrive at work 10 or 15 minutes early.  Actually, though, I did realize that I felt quite energized this morning.

I have lunch errands to run:  have to get out and buy candy and socks.

Something to suck on?

Yes!  But I put the candy IN the socks first.

Whew!  Well at least that narrows it down a little bit!   ;)

Georges Seurat - "La Grande Jatte", of course, but I'm also fascinated by some of his smaller canvases, and the recent exhibition of his drawings at MoMA was revelatory.

Frederic Remington - There was an exhibition featuring his "night paintings" at the National Gallery of Art a few years ago.  Some truly luminous and haunting images.

The aforementioned Caillebotte - I still remember seeing that painting during my first trip to the Art Institute of Chicago.  I was speeding through the galleries trying to find the Seurat when I was stopped by that image of a Parisian street scene.  Beautiful.

I love art.

An early favorite -- a Rousseau that captivated me as a child:

I tend to avoid religious art, although some is extraordinary.  I love some non-religious Renaissance, though, including this wonderful Rapahel:

I've always loved this painting, by Gustave Caillebotte:
