I'm up, I'm up.  I'll have to go read about the fire, but can see nothing in the color of the sky that would say "fire".  But my kitchen windows face west while Universal is east.

Hello, everyone.

I haven't been able to ketsup, so please forgive me if I've overlooked something.

Thanks to DR JOSE for his feedback on THE RICHES.

I spent much of the morning in the garden, weeding and pruning. It doesn't take much rain for everything to spring up--and we've had A LOT of rain.

Yes, we, too, had a humungous thunderstorm yesterday. SHEETS of rain, hail--you name it. It POURED.

I'm worn out from the gardening and feel like a nap may be in order later.

Must attend an Open House, then run a few errands.

Here's an item about the actor who played Von Rothbart in Swan Lake:

Oh, that's good news, BK.  We spent a great day at Universal during a family vacation in 1996.  While Rob liked the Jurassic Park and ET thrill rides, the most thrilling ride for me was that lo-o-o-o-ong escalator with the panoramic view of the soundstages and backlots.  I just thought of all the movie history that had taken place out there.

LATIMES

Quote
What burned in the Universal fire
June 2, 2008

* New York City streetscape: Used in countless movies and television shows. This set burned once before, in 1990, and was rebuilt.

* King Kong: The King Kong exhibit on the Universal Studios tour. The exhibit included a 30-foot-tall moving model of King Kong.

* "Back to the Future" set: The town square, including the courthouse area and the clock tower that plays a central roll in the film.

* Video vaults: These vaults contained videos of numerous Universal-produced TV series and movies. Firefighters managed to remove some of the videotapes. "Nothing is lost forever," Universal President Ron Meyer said of the videos.

* Soundstage: At least one full soundstage.

Very little of Universal's output was done on actual videotape.  This was probably their video masters for film stuff, which is why Ron Meyer said nothing is lost forever.

The welcoming view:

Newscasters have also suggested that "getting there" might be half the fun - street closures, emergency vehicles, gawkers, etc.

We had a "stunt" tenor this morning at church - a sub - who sightread flawlessly and had a glorious voice, to boot.

Afternoon all. I just got back from a trip to New Jersey via the PATH Train. It now costs $1.75, up from $1.50 and on Saturday and Sunday it's via Hoboken not direct but it was still fun to go and walk to Target, then Staples and then the big Newport City Mall. I had a salad of greens and tomatoes at a salad bar in the Mall. Nothing was purchased though I did lots of browsing.

Yesterday I saw Sex in the City with a huge group of Gay men, lots of women and a few straight boys dragged along by their girlfriends. We really enjoyed it. As SJP said, the movie wasn't made for the critics, it was made for the fans of the series and from what I hear, they love it. Yes, it's a bit long and there are some plot points to quibble about but my friend and I had a great time and laughed and teared up and clapped at the beginning and the end.

On another note, I guess Mike Myers is a big enough star that he can do whatever he wants but boy does LoveGuru look AWFUL!!! I wouldn't watch it on cable for free. But then, I'm also not a MM fan. He wears thin very, very, very quickly. Oh, well, horses is all I can say.

Anthony will be back in the City tomorrow afternoon after a long  week on Long Island. The countdown begins for his trip to Wisconsin. He has to be there August 3rd and he's driving and doesn't want to do it in one day so he will probably leave around July stopping in Chicago to visit his cousin for a few days.

Good Afternoon!

Well, I've dawdled enough here - although, I did put my A/C-window-unit in my bedroom - and now I need to head out for a bit to run some errands (i.e. make some copies).

I had a good morning of Brain surgery, accomplished much, and I'm back home for a while. I want to start the Act Two vocal book ASAP, and I've turned on the AC to cool the place down. Toyland, where I spent the morning,  was really stuffy and warm.

Proofing the final chapter, and have been learning a couple of Nudie songs in different keys that are more friendly to the singer.

This is NOT a way to welcome in a new month.  I really don't like when new months start on a weekend.  I'd see we'd need a frenzy or five.

Kind of muggy here, but I've still resisted turning on the air (so far) today. Have had a busy, fun-filled afternoon.

The BACK TO THE FUTURE courthouse was used in a great many other movies, including TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD.

I'm still in disbelief over this being the first day of June. What happened to May. Honestly, April didn't pass by all that quickly for me, but May? Seemed like it was about 10 days long.

I began my afternoon watching the rest of KNOCKED UP. It was a sweet, fun movie. Can't believe it was such a big hit, but I did like it better than the 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN (put together by the same basic team).

Glad I got to see the HD version. Couldn't miss that birth scene in HD!  :o

Next I watched the made-for-TV remake of THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN. So glad I didn't watch it "live." Was able to see the whole thing in less than three hours. Had some really good, tense parts, but the CGI stuff was pretty fake.

Also did not like the leading lady Crista Miller. I find her a very poor actress and haven't liked much of what she's done on TV before.
