Lord Wellington Has a Beef With Me
After several years we made it back out to North Hollywood for a little time warp food at Le Petit Chateau. Beef Wellington was the goal and we scored like David Beckham (before he went on injured reserve) on a penalty shot. The filet they used was top notch, and they cooked it a beautiful rare to med. rare - as ordered. A little boat of bordelaise sauce, some nicely underdone baby vegetables and some potatoes au gratin rounded out the meal. My wife, who cannot get enough pate, acutally had the pate appetizer before the Welly came and I tried their Caesar salad which has a really tasty dressing with enough zing to satisfy my palate. We ended with their bread pudding. The next time we intend on closing with the crepe suzette for two. With 2 before dinner drinks, one glass of cabernet and coffee for both of us we were out the door for $130, plus tip.
Our waiter, (John) was great. This is a place that gives not even the slightest whiff of snobbery, and they set you up with glasses of iced tap water followed by a little amuse to start, (crepe wrapped salmon mousse).
If you like Wellington this is the best place we have found, by far. And we have tried it at Bistro Garden, 4 Seasons in B. Hills, and Josie (those were all by special arrangement). We are going back next month to do it again, (in fact we made the reservation before we left to come home).
