DR JulieC40 - This was my second time seeing August: Osage County, and it was just as brilliant, engrossing, disturbing and entertaining as the first time I saw it.  I was also glad to be able to see the show one more time before a couple members of the original cast head back to Chicago next week.  However, I will probably see the show a third time to catch Estelle Parsons as Violet.

DR TCB - As for the Mary Poppins' kids...  Well, I think it's more a matter of the kids going through Mary Poppins and not the other way around.  It's just the nature of the show.  Jane and Michael Banks are essentially pre-pubescent children, and they need to cast pre-pubescent actors.  So, when those pre-pubescent voices and bodies start to change, well, as they sang in "The Brady Bunch", it's time to rearrange.  They also have three sets of Banks' children, so that's six kids right there.

Disney has also started having a general open call for all of the "young people's roles" in The Lion King (Young Simba and Young Nala), Mary Poppins (Jane Banks, Michael Banks) and The Little Mermaid (Flounder).

Hello, everyone. Introductions often seem so awkward, especially when you are introducing yourself. This is PDXJane, the sister DR JulieC40  often mentions. As they say on AM talk radio, I am sort of a long time listener, first time caller at HHW. A very dear, regrettably departed friend named Dennis Clancy first told me about this place years ago, and I have occasionally lurked here since.  My interest in and involvement in Theatre goes back many more years than I care to admit. And it's nice to know that there are many kindred spirits on this board.

Welcome, new Dear Reader PDXJane!

One thing that the Internet is abuzz with was Miss LuPone's little tantrum.  And of course our very own Jose would never do what this person did - no sane individual would - just some reprehensible buttcheek who thinks such a thing is fine.  It's not fine.  And I hope they find him and string him up by his thumbs.

*One very cool thing about this morning's rehearsal:  My friend, Adam, who let me tag along with him, was part of a "VISA Signature" Tony Weekend Package which includes some special events, tickets to a show, the rehearsal, the Awards themselves, etc.  Well, one of the special things they arrange for during the rehearsal are photo-ops with various celebrities - basically, anyone who happened to be walking up the aisle and was snagged by the photographer.  So, due to my seating assignment, I ended up smack dab in the middle of a bunch of the photos.  So, hopefully, in a week or two, I will have copies of the photos with Barry Bostwick, John Lithgow, Christian Siriano, Laura Belle Bundy, Laura Linney, etc., etc., etc.

:) :) :) :) :)

That's so cool, Jose! ;D

Over on a theater chat board some peckerwood has posted a live feed from the Tony rehearsal - I'm sure said peckerwood has tapped into the network feed and I hope they catch him and expose who it is to everyone there and then oust him and ridicule him royally.  That's what I hate about these little Internet dweebs - let these people work in peace, for heaven's sake.  You are not entitled to see this, to steal this, or to share this.  What a world.

Yes, shame on Jose!

As for the "tantrum"... Well, there was a legitimate technical issue during the Gypsy segment, and Ms. LuPone did what any other performer would have done.  And, frankly, should have done.  -And they had the same issue later on... And the performer(s) requested to start again too.  I'll talk about the particulars later if anyone is interested - or hasn't read about it on the chat boards by then.

Good Morning!  Good Afternoon!

I'm up, I'm up... And, yes, I attended the Tony Awards rehearsal this morning.  It was quite fun.  I think I shall abstain from posting any sort of "spoilers" right now - I'm sure the chat boards will be dishing the dish (and there were some dish-worthy moments) - but if anyone has any questions about something during tonight's broadcast, I'll see if I can answer them.

Will Patti be singing this evening?

Isn't that why they have rehearsals - to work out problems?  Sounds like some folks had misinformed expectations.

Well, I must be going (but I'll be back).  I need to feed my cat, empty the litter box, shower, shave, dress then go to the Olympia's Farmer's Market.  I bought my dad a set of Guinness pint glasses for Father's Day, but tomorrow is my mom's birthday and I need to get her something.  My sister suggested a ginko biloba (sp?) plant and she said that they sell them at the Farmer's Market, hence the trip.  My mom loves gardening, so it'll be appropriate.  After the dual festivities at the parents' house, I'll be back in time for the Tony Awards!!  And if I'm not, I've set BOTH of my DVRs to record it...I set them to start at least five minutes early and end a half hour later. ;)

...And from the number of "screaming fans" in the balcony during the rehearsal, I'm betting there was many a cellphone cam recording YouTube ready clips.  :-\

*Of course, as we all entered Radio City Music Hall, the guards checked our bags, and had people check their cameras...  -And we were even told that if anyone saw anyone holding up a cellphone camera, they would be ejected immediately.  Well, as soon as the houselights went down... Then as the first couple of celebrities started to take the stage... Lots of camera flashes from various parts of the hall.  And no one being led back out to the lobby.

*Truth be told, I snuck my camera in too... But I only took pictures on the way out... And without my flash.  ::)

Consdering how few have posted about the T.O.D.; it would appear that Michael Jeeter and Brent Barrett are winning by a large percentage!

Well... Ms. LuPone made a statement directed toward the producers of the Tony Awards...  That actually made me cheer!  However, I could see how some people might have taken that as some sort of Diva Fit.   Alas, since Ms. LuPone's reputation proceeds her, what was basically a statement about the true nature of "live theatre", was most likely misconstrued as "Patti-tude".

I enjoyed another episode of THE OFFICE while I cooked at ate lunch. In this one Dwight takes Ryan out on his first sales call. And Michael looks forward to free soft pretzel day.

Then I watched the new Criterion disc of BEFORE THE RAIN. The movie is in three sections which are non-linear (think PULP FICTION except dealing with Macedonia/Albania disputes). Very interesting group of characters, but I wanted far far more with most of them. Yep, I got the theme of the story - that civil wars happen even in a country like England with random rage shootings - but I just didn't think there was nearly enough in-depth about these characters.

Do we need to observe spoiler alerts during the one hour "pre-show"?  That's available to everyone on-line in real time.
