The illegal portion of our fireworks show is slowing beginning, even though it isn't even close to being dark here.  Then at 10:30 we have the big City Fireworks, and then, as a finale, the neighbors will continue to blow their heads off lighting more illegal fireworks until around 2:00.  Happy Fourth of July!

I think I will go into the bedroom and watch INDEPENDENCE DAY.

Lots o' those unofficial fireworks in our neighborhood, too, DR TCB.

Our local Olympic hopeful, runner Jeff See, has advanced to the semi-finals and I'm going to try to stay up to watch on USA from 11pm-1am.

Enjoyed my rather unpredictable night of viewing.

I started with something very predictable, what I had planned to watch: '1776.'

Words can't describe how wonderful I think this play is, and I'm so grateful to have this faithful movie version of the show as a keepsake. Yes, I'd love to see an HD transfer of it somewhere/sometime, but I won't hold my breath for that to happen.

Next, I decided I'd try something different in regard to a review copy. I started with disc 2 of a film I've never seen before and started watching the "making of" features before seeing the actual film. I'm not sure I'll ever do it again, especially for something as unusual as MISHIMA, but what's done is done now.

I watched two documentaries which combined ran over an hour. The next thing is a 40 minute audio interview with the sister of law of director Paul Schrader who wrote the Japanese script for the film (though she got no on-screen credit). I started that interview, but when I saw how long it was going to run, I turned it off and will pick back up with it tomorrow.

I concluded the evening by watching the wrenching "Ruby" episode of THE CLOSER from the third season box set. What a GREAT makeup job they did on the suspect in this episode.

TOmorrow, I plan to watch MY LIFE ON THE D-LIST while I cook and eat lunch, and then I'll spend most of the rest of the day with MISHIMA.

I have some computer operations to perform, and then I'm heading down to bed.

Good night!

I have '1776' cued up in the player ready to go when I go back down in a little while. I'm looking forward to seeing it upconverted on my TV since this will be the first time I've watched since getting this new TV back in September.

I'm back from my sister's house (I've actually been home for about an hour, now).  The whole family gathered (plus a couple of friends of my parents') and had various hot dog types, chicken fingers, salads, sangria (for some) and homemade strawberry shortcake.

While eating, we listened to the soundtrack of "1776" that I made from the extended 176 minute laserdisc version of the movie.  It's not the entire movie soundtrack, just the songs with snippets of dialogue.  I think that it's better than the offically released (and never on CD) soundtrack, but that's just me. ;)

Anyway, I don't know why I didn't do this sooner, but I'm going to make a DVD of the extended 176 minute laserdisc version of the movie.  I know that not all of the footage is in pristine condition, but it doesn't matter to me.  So that's what I'm watching now. :)

Anyway, for this laserdisc, they created an overture.  I don't remember if they kept that for the official DVD release, but I really like it.

I'm just curious, does anyone else have the London cast recording to 1776?  The one time I went to New York, I went to...the record store that charges SO much for things and then doesn't pay BK for the CDs of his that they sell. ::) Anyway, I paid way too much for it, but I've never seen it anywhere...not even on eBay (when I've looked).  So, it was probably worth it.

Fireworks are exploding loudly, but it's just too muggy and disgusting outside.

I am not able to take wonderful photos of fireworks like AJ can, but I thought I would share this photo with you all. The children are refugees from the Congo who came to the US last year. They had never seen fireworks before:

Well, it's 9:45 p.m. in the Pacific NW and I can hear the local fireworks going off.  The big display in Vancouver, Washington, will be televised but I'm recording it because I know me and I'll fall asleep.  I'm also recording Macy's and another one, I forget which one now.  So I'll watch tomorrow.

Grandma (me) is getting old! :)  Nightie, night!

My chicken dish was quite yummilicious - I had a bagel with it and it was a perfect meal.
