Gosh DR MBarnum!  You're up early!
Maybe he was just returning from a wonderful night!

I have no favorite Raft performances. He's in some movies I enjoy (NIGHT AFTER NIGHT, SOME LIKE IT HOT), but I never found him much of an actor.

I will watch MONK today though I'll spend the rest of my day with CSI: MIAMI. Unlike other shows last season, they managed to crank out 21 episodes this past season, three to five more than most other hour long shows last year.

When you're talking Bogart, Cagney Robinson and Raft, you're in my territory.  The old gangster movies are my absolute favorites.

But, even though his heyday was a bit later, I'd add Broderick Crawford to that list.  He did some pretty good gangster movies, too (e.g. THE MOB, NEW YORK CONFIDENTIAL, and aren't both ALL THE KING'S MEN and BORN YESTERDAY really cut from that same cloth?).

Favorite Bogat's: THE OKLAHOMA KID, DEAD END, THE ROARING TWENTIES, HIGH SIERRA, THE MALTESE FALCON, CASABLANCA, TREASURE OF SERRA MADRE, KEY LARGO, THE ENFORCER, THE CAINE MUTINY, THE DESPERATE HOURS, THE HARDER THEY FALL.

Cagney: ANGELS WITH DIRTY FACES, THE ROARING TWENTIES, THE OKLAHOMA KID, THE STRAWBERRY BLONDE, YANKEE DOODLE DANDY, WHITE HEAT, RUN FOR COVER, MR. ROBERTS, SHAKE HANDS WITH THE DEVIL, MAN OF 1000 FACES

Robinson: LITTLE CAESAR, LARCENY, INC., A SLIGHT CASE OF MURDER, BROTHER ORCHID, THE SEA WOLF, KEY LARGO, BLACK TUESDAY, ILLEGAL, A HOLE IN THE HEAD

Raft: SCARFACE, THE GLASS KEY, EACH DAWN I DIE, THEY DRIVE BY NIGHT, INVISIBLE STRIPES, LOAN SHARK, ROGUE COP, SOME LIKE IT HOT

I knew both Raft and Crawford and was fortunate enough meet Robinson once.  He was SOOO short.

DR FJL - I hope you have a smooth trip to DC and that you get to see Ace.  Jill Paice is a local (Dayton-area) girl and has quite a fan base here.

I wondered what she was doing after GWTW.  I loved her in CURTAINS.

Ok, so how hard would it be to get from Bethesda to the Signature theater in Arlington to see ACE?   I may be able to go Saturday night, if I can get a ticket.

DR Cilla, after the contempt I received during the last election for not liking Kerry, I understand how you feel.  I was so fed up with the badgering I received from a friend I was the one who almost walked away.  This time when I mentioned I wasn't keen on Obama, I at least did it prior to the primaries & I felt the conversation was more a sharing of ideas than badgering & contempt.  I won't bring the subject up again.

I do not choose my friends for their political views.  I'm sorry about your dear friend.

I have not seen a lot of their movies but here are the ones I enjoyed.

Bogart: Key Largo, Maltese Falcon, Casablanca

Edward G. Robinson: Cincinannati Kid, Double Indemnity, Key Largo

Cagney: Angel with Dirty Faces... I do recall him one called Ragtime

I am sorry to hear that also Cilla.... One's political views should not be the essence of a freindship.

Sadly I am not keen on either Obama or Mccain. They both have to do a lot of talking in my book.

Thanks Jane.  I will say, during the last election I did my share of throwing stones (figuratively) and not being very pleasant to some who didn't share my views, although I didn't really like either candidate.  So, I think I have gotten a bit of my own medicine, so to speak.

At this point, I'm walking away from that friendship, but he won't notice because he isn't talking to me  ::)

It looks like I could take a cab or the metro and a cab and get to the theater.  My last class is supposed to end at 5:00 PM on Saturday.  So the question, should I get a ticket to ACE for Saturday night?

I'm puzzled by "not liking" a candidate.  As George W proved, the candidate is only the puppet for the party since our current president seems incapable of pullibng any of his own strings. I have no wish to know Mr Kerry, Mr Obama, Mr McCain, Ms Palin, or any of the candidates personally, nor do I wish to become their personal friend. I dislike the Republican party's attitude on so many issues, from civil rights to the religious movement to the conflict in Iraq on down, that I would vote for Rin-tin-tin if he were running on the Democratic ticket. I don't like the current regime and I don't believe their hoped-for replacements will offer any more but the same and perhaps uglier alternatives.

Oh, I love taffy!! When I was little my Great Aunt Nan came to our house and made it, since we didnt' have a taffy puller (like in the photo) she pulled it....and jumped rope with it, lol.  It didn't touch the ground or her feet, but it was amazing to a little girl who had never seen such a thing.

I remember when I took a certain amount of pride that I was a liberal Democrat, as I was in the class of people who were open to different views & opinions without condemning.  Sadly, since the last election, I have found the opposite to be true.

I also live in a liberal town where the conservatives tend to keep a low profile out of self defense.  When we lived in Pennsylvania our town was mostly conservative & I was blasted for my liberal views.  I'm not aren't talking politics, simply my lack of prejudice to other groups of people.

Indeed TD, I was up very early. I awoke around 5 am, cuddled with Bosco and Freddy until 5:30, and when it looked like I could not fall back asleep I got up had my coffee, read the paper, looked at HHW and Ebay, and then collapsed back into bed.

I am now up, but feeling kind of blah. I think some thrift shopping will do me a bit of good.

Anyway, I need to run if I'm going to get to the farmer's market.  I had to meet with a client who couldn't get into my office yesterday and who would have been indicted on much more serious charges if he didn't get the plea agreement signed before Monday.  So mission accomplished. Now I can buy tomatoes

DR elmore, I can't speak for others, however when I say I don't like, or I do like, a candidate I'm not referring to my interest in having a personal friendship.  I'm stating how I feel about them as people, their views, etc, & their skills to be the leader of our country.
