One story some DRs may enjoy:
My car alarm goes berserk at times. I take the car in for service, they tell my they reloaded the software, but the problem continues. I've been surprised that one of my neighbors hasn't dismantled the damn alarm for me. Exasperated, I phone not the service advisor, but the service manager, a few weeks ago and calmly explained that they simply are not getting to the bottom of it. They had the car for the day and told me that the problem was that the electronic door thingy was faulty and needed to be replaced. The alarm system thought the door was being tampered with. $440. Then I realized that this faulty thingy was on the right side of the car and it just so happens that some time back the shop had damaged one of the right doors while the car was up on the lift being serviced. The dealer fixed the body work at no cost, of course, but could this be fall-out from that incident? I can't say one way or another, but I called the service manager back and asked if that might be the case. He looked into it, and called back a couple days later to say that they would be taking it up with Volvo and I would be refunded the cost of the repair. Not a word as to whether it had anything to do with the damage they caused or not. As far as I'm concerned, that's between them and Volvo and am just glad to be getting my money back. Oh, and the alarm? As far as I know it has not gone off again.
