You need a new agent if all you're getting is a cucumber role.  ;)

Japanese Maki Roll - that's the title of my next novel.

Is that what cucumber role is called in Japan?

WHATEVER WERE THEY THINKING DEPARTMENT

Quote
...
Cheerleaders at Nacogdoches High School in Nacogdoches, Tex., performed a skit wearing cowboy hats and carrying toy guns while they shot down cheerleaders dressed as the opposing team — the Center High School Roughriders — who had come to steal the NHS mascot, the newspaper reported.

In a video posted to Facebook, Nacogdoches cheerleaders are seen forcing the Roughriders to kneel before them and feign shooting the girls in the head. The mock killers then drag their prey into a pile and celebrate celebrate by raising their guns and tossing money into the air.

DB, you left out the principal's reaction:

"More than 120 students have signed a petition protesting “gun promotion” at pep rallies, but the school principal, Nathan Chaddick, called the skit "simple, innocent satire" to boost school spirit"

Sushi is vinegared rice.
Nigiri Sushi is sushi rice with raw fish on top
Maki Sushi is sushi rice and sundried goodies wrapped in nori seaweed - commonly called "rolls". (A California roll is avocado, cucumber and caviar)

My prediction is that school principal Nathan Chaddick will be joining the ever-growing ranks of the unemployed, and quite soon at that.

TOD:  my neighbor Alice introduced me to a great sandwich, which is essentially scrambled egg on heavy bread with watercress, sprouts and ranch dressing; very tasty.  When I wasin grade school my favorite sandwich was my mom's meatloaf on Wonder Bread.

Sorry, stupid question alert:  What is heavy bread?

My guess, the opposite of Wonder Bread.  I think of heavy bread as a dense bread, heavy to hold.

I've also decided to lower the price further, given the archival nature of the sound - I'm sure everyone would pay more, but I'm hoping the slightly lower price will make people happy.  I don't know any other label that would do so.  The new price is going to be $15.98 so those who preordered here can check their paypal accounts by tomorrow for a two-dollar credit back.

TOD - and now for something completely different.  I learned to make these sandwiches from my mom:

Shred a pile of sharp (or medium) cheddar cheese and mix with a bottle of chili sauce.  Add chopped ripe olives.  Fill hot dog buns with the mixture and wrap them in pairs in foil.  Chill.  When ready to eat, heat in a 375o oven until filling is heated through.

Great to make ahead and have on hand when you're going to be busy.

Ginny, since regional factors sometimes apply, what in your book constitutes chili sauce?

Japanese Maki Roll - that's the title of my next novel.

Maki Sushi is sushi rice and sundried goodies wrapped in nori seaweed - commonly called "rolls". (A California roll is avocado, cucumber and caviar)

der Brucer

First of all - "vigegared" - Is that Japanese for "balsamico"? ;)

Secondly - You forgot the crab meat (fake or real stuff) in the California Roll.  And the tobiko or masago is not traditional, or it's only added if the roll is made "inside out" with the rice on the outside.  I usually prefer black sesame seeds on the outside.  *Of course, the "California Roll" itself is not of Japanese origin, so...

Well, actually, now that I think of it, a "cucumber role" may be called a "pillowing tool".  ;)

*I still have nightmares about that number from Shogun: the Musical.

der Brucer

Hmm... I've always thought of Potato Bread - at least the stuff you can find at the grocery stores - as a "light bread".  And Potato Bread hot dog buns are my favorite.

As for a heavy or "hearty" bread, I'm guessing a good slice of a pain de campagne, miche or even a crusty sourdough.

Edith has decided that we will be doing some fast walking every noon.  She stopped me this noon as she was heading out the door and said we were going to walk for 10 minutes on the skywalks.  It turned out to be 12 minutes and since she's in good shape it was a fast pace, just right for me, I could talk and walk but any faster and I would have been winded.   With her pushing me, I may really do this.  The next step will be by November 1 - no elevators unless in heels or carrying something. We'll see, but it's a good goal
