I was going to watch Jodie Foster's THE BRAVE ONE which I recorded over the weekend from HBO-HD, but I realized that I hadn't watched Tuesday night's THE SHIELD, and since my friend John and I talk about it at lunch on Thursdays, I needed to watch it. So, THE BRAVE ONE will have to wait.

THE SHIELD was really good, and with only a few episodes left in the series, the face-off between Vic and Shane is now obviously to the death. Good lord, it's riveting!

Congrats Ron...that's a lot of typing

It' just a lot of short pos

I liked him to.  It was Herb Alplert who said it when he was making his comeback.

I will admit that I was totally wrong about Herb Alpert becoming popular (but of course, I didn't realize that he was backed by the Mafia).

Please elaborate.

At some point (before or after he started A&R records), they "approached" him and made sure that his records were played on every radio station, every juke box, etc.  Granted, he was talented.  He finally in later years had a breakdown over the pressure.   I believe he got out of the contract with the Mob (which is why you didn't hear much from him for some time).  He revealed all this several years ago.

I'd love to know your sources for this, as a lifelong fan of A&M with many personal friends who have worked with Herb and Lani through the years.  Herb's "breakdown" had nothing to do with the "Mob" in any story I have ever read or been told.  But perhaps I've not read the information you evidently have.

Clear as mud....

I watched the last half hour of a LAW & ORDER episode with Ben Shenkman as the defense attorney. I hadn't seen the episode in years, but I did vaguely remember watching it when it was originally on. And seeing Jerry Orbach is always a pleasure on the show.

Next, I watched BONES. An OK episode tonight. Any time religion is part of the plot, the Booth-Bones team is at odds making for sometimes less than gripping viewing. Tonight's new intern was also irritating, so this is one I won't miss being gone.

My throat still feels scratchy and raw - I've popped a few more Coldeez, but don't want to do any more of that stuff tonight, as I'm feeling very bloated from the EmergenC (in water) and Airborne (in water).  That's a lot of water.

And I concluded my evening with tonight's CSI: NY. I thought it was going to take place completely on a flight with Mac solving the crime airborne, but only the first quarter of the show took place there with the remainder done back in NYC. Good mystery, and I didn't guess the murderer's identity until right before it was revealed.

But before that I did some grocery shopping.  Potatoes were on sale so I bought a 5 lb bag.

I used about half the bag to make some potato soup, which was tonight's dinner.

The Vixter was on a school trip tonight to see Legally Blonde.  She just called to say they would back at the school by 12:30.

Vixdad is already abed with his poorly knee and his earache so I suppose i am the designated driver

You do realize that they have found Airborne doesn't prevent colds...at least I think that was the finding.  I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong  ;D

You do realize that they have found Airborne really doesn't do any good. Right?

Hadn't heard that - wish I had before spending the seven bucks on it.

Let me see if I can find it on the net.  It was a while back. Maybe they've changed the formula or something

There's no credible evidence that what's in Airborne can prevent colds or protect you from a germy environment," said CSPI Senior nutritionist David Schardt. "Airborne is basically on overpriced, run-of-the-mill vitamin pill that's been cleverly, but deceptively, marketed."

Here's the CNN story of the settlement.  It's still a vitamin supplement, so it's not going to hurt anything

And this is from the Airborne website  http://www.airbornehealth.com/cnav_faqs.php#general02

Quote
Company Information

1. Where is Airborne based?
Airborne, Inc. is based in Bonita Springs, Florida, with offices in Carmel, California, and New Jersey.

2. How much does Airborne cost?
Although prices may vary, the average retail price for a tube of Airborne is $6.99.

3. What is the recent news regarding a lawsuit about?
On November 29, 2007, the US District Court of the Northern District of California in Riverside granted preliminary approval to a $23.25 million settlement reached between Airborne and attorneys representing the alleged plaintiff class. Plaintiff's complaint stems from Airborne advertising and labeling between 2001 and 2007 that allegedly positioned Airborne Original as a cold remedy. In late 2005 and early 2006, Airborne made changes on its own to product labeling and advertising to reflect Airborne's role as a dietary supplement that helps support the body's immune system. Airborne denies wrongdoing or illegal conduct but decided to settle the class action lawsuit to avoid costly litigation. A hearing was held on June 16, 2008 at which the court was asked to give final approval to the settlement. This request has been fully briefed and the parties are waiting the court's decision.

Before I left work, I was going to post that I was leaving to go to rehearsal for "Loot," but my computer at work goobered and I couldn't do anything on the Internet, so I just left. :-\

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. ;)

Just had a wonderful telephonic call from my ex-agent, who, thanks to this site, I reconnected with.  He just fell head over heels in love with Benjamin Kritzer, and will be reading the other two books this weekend.  He wants to run with them and has several ideas for directors.  Doesn't mean anything will happen, but to finally have someone who read that book and "saw" what it could be (and I only think it will be strengthened by the two subsequent book).  And I'm anxious for him to read the two Hofstetter books, because I really think he'll see the potential of those, two.  But he told me he laughed out loud as he read BK and was very touched at the ending.

That's so great, BK!  I hope something good happens with this! :D
