I also discovered that singing a long-phrased song in 5/4 leaves very little space for breathing.  ;)

I'm not surprised in BEAUTY's spectacular look. When the TV commercials for it have come up in high definition, the clips have been eye popping. The trailers for BEAUTY that have been on Disney Blu-rays for the last year weren't taken from this transfer, so to say that I'm about to jump out of my skin in anticipation of it is putting it mildly. Naturally, the one release of the year that I've been most anticipating gets screwed up royally by the PR firm that packages Disney releases. My understanding is that Disney has changed firms (possibly due to the horrif foul-ups with this marquee release.)

Now, I'm heading downstairs to get clothes sorted for washing today and then set about fixing something for lunch.

Yes, it has.   The guy who handles the SD release posted to the DVDTalk Reviewers' Forum the other day that he'll be handling the BD releases now, too, specifically because of this screw-up (not yours personally, the lateness of the shipments, LOL).

Well, I am up.
I sold time at the calender store yesterday morning and while I was there I got a call from the dining room manager at Mulligan's asking if I would work FOR HER last night - be the dining room manager and pick up tables - since she was going to a wedding; I said "Yes."
Since Mulligan's is just reopening, we are overstaffed, and I was in charge of cutting people (NOT with a French knife) as the evening progressed as well as checking their side work and taking their remittance before they left.  Also answering any questions which might have risen regarding the computers (and the POS) system we use to place orders.
We had a fairly brisk early dinner, and each of the eight servers (nine, counting me) were able to have at least two tables.  I cut people starting at 7pm, using the tried and true "1st in, 1st out" method, with few complaints.  We do seem to have one "bad apple," who sits around and bitches when it's time to do side work, and she has rubbed most of the staff the wrong way all week; fortunately, she was the first in.
After nine, one ten top came in - a celebration of a 21st birthday occurring at midnight.  We had to use diplomacy to get them to eat in the dining room, since the downstairs bartender wanted a server to take the party, while the owner didn't want to have a server staying beyond midnight just for the party's alcohol tab.  One of the new, though experienced servers, volunteered to handle the party, so she got major props in my book.
I got another ten top, which turned into twelve, at 10:45, just before the dining room would close and the kitchen would go onto the bar foods menu.  They were an entertaining groups of teachers and interns from my area and we had laughs while many bon mots flowed.
During the evenings that I work, I am also the designated male escort (!) to walk the female serving staff members to their vehicles after dark, so I got plenty of fresh air last night. . .
My last server left at midnight.  I finished up any remaining dining room duties - nothing was neglected by the staff - and had a meeting with the new owner (whom I've known since 1998 or earlier) about how things are running and what can be done to keep things  going as smoothly as they went last night.

I pulled into my driveway at 12:59am, did a little surfing on the net, then finished reading James Ellroy'sTHE BIG NOWHERE before going to sleep.

Gotta say, all in all, it was a wonderful day.  As I drifted off to sleep, I thought that if the benefits at Borders weren't as good as they are, I'd seriously consider remaining in the restaurant business on a full-time basis again. . .

OH, and this morning's Post-Gazette announced the show's for next summer's Civic Light Opera, with some interesting choices:

Thanks for posting that CLO news, td.  I just spread the word on All That Chat about COPACABANA, which I've been wanting to see.

I may have to do a road trip for COPACABANA if the timing works out with my work schedule.

Train on track 9 leaving for Anaheim, Azusza, and Cucamonga.....

Bugs Bunny said that one in a cartoon.

I believe that this line was originally used on THE JACK BENNY SHOW

(Sounds like BUNNY)

Good Afternoon!

I'm back from breakfast with my family and friends.  Alas, the Potato Pancakes/Latkes were no longer on Aunt Sarah's menu, but their Sausage Gravy (over an English muffin - no biscuits??) was, as was their Hash Brown casserole.  I do have to admit that it was one of the less than stellar meals at Aunt Sarah's - I still think the best ones were the ones I would have at the Broad Street location at 3:00 in the morning - but it was still a good and hearty meal.  And the various topics of conversation that my parents and relatives brought up were also quite entertaining.  ;)

td - Wish it had clicked in my mind that you were in Pittsburgh when I had all that free time during my last trip there, which was (mainly) to see THE GLORIOUS ONES at Pittsburgh Public.  I think that was in spring 2007.

I had planned to come to see MAME at CLO this summer, even had my theatre ticket and hotel and flight booked, but circumstances intervened.  :(  Luckily, all but the theatre ticket were cancellable.

OOH!!  Copacabana!  -I played a few weeks on that tour. :)

-I'm guessing they're still paying off the set and costumes - or at least that 20-foot grand piano prop, and that huge(!) staircase and the appropriately scaled head-dresses for the showgirls!  ;)  However, for all its excess, it was good excess, and that opening tour cast was great!  And, if I'm remembering correctly, the show was so big, that it required more trailers/semis than Phantom of the Opera or Les Miserables!

*I was also responsible for the gunshot cue/sound effect via my keyboard part.  Boy, did I sweat bullets - get it, "bullets" ;) - each night during that sequence.

DR td - Ah, sounds like you did indeed have a wonderful night at the restaurant.

I've often thought about waiting tables for a night or weekend sometime, just to give it a try.  I actually think I would like it.  Between having parents are in the food service industry - my Mom was a Sysco rep for a number of years - and being a frequent patron - I already know a lot of the do's and don'ts of the biz.  I think. I hope.  ;)

OH!  And the charts/orchestrations for Copacabana are great too!  -And the tour originally went out with 21 pieces too!  Having a full wind and brass section for all those big band numbers was such a (rare) treat!

Concert went beautifully last night and I must say I am *so* happy I booked this little choro mandolin/guitar duo that my Portuguese teacher recommended as our opening act.  The mandolin player was an unbelievable virtuoso, some of the finest playing I've ever had the pleasure of listening to.

I'm up, I'm up, after a good night's sleep.  My throat is sore from all that coughing and I sound terrible, but I think I'm in the last of this.

MattH, I'm very anxious for you to compare the SD DVD to the Blu-Ray - maybe it's just my tired eyes, but boy the SD seems soft in the mid to long shots - wonderful in the closeups, though, and the colors are very strong, as they should be.

DR TCB, I’m glad your gathering was a big success.  The story of your classmate moved me very much.

Thank you DR Singdawg, it was very happy entertaining.  It was one of those evening when everything turned out as it should & the meal, if I say so myself, was delicious.  Do you feel better today?

I am up and not feeling too well.  Jose, said that perhaps the problem was the food at last night's reunion.  I am sure it didn't help.  I think I prefer the food at Old Country Buffet over the prime rib dinner I ingested last evening.

You shouldn't listen to DR Singdaw when he says I'm in Philadelphia.

If memory serves, THE GLORIOUS ONES was June of 2007. . .and yes, you should've looked me up!

I'm planning on seeing COPACABANA, since I missed it the last time it was done here, and I'm addicted to the score.

Yeah, it was a fun night at Mulligan's Clubhouse and Grille - which is where I will be EATING dinner tonight.  (Toss-up between the Greek Pizza and the Beef Medallions. . . .).

Well, my brother and his brethren have arrived.  Of course, Emily is still being a bit reticent when it comes to meeting her Uncle/Godfather Jojo, but at least she gave me a besito before she ran upstairs to play video games with her brother and sister.  ::)

It turns out, that my brother, Don, is also heading down this afternoon.
