I apologize for not being around much today. It's been another eventful day around these parts.
I woke early this morning and Toby and I headed off to my meeting with payroll. Without getting into too much detail, the problem was that the payroll gal forgot to take into account all of my leave slips for my maternity leave, and put me back on the full time payroll at the beginning of October. This was her error.
I caught said error and called it in about two weeks ago. She apologized profusely and sent me some paperwork for paying the money back. Jed, my wonderful math whiz of a husband, looked at her spreadsheet and said "She did the math wrong on this." Not only had she calculated the pay wrong, she also asked me to pay back the GROSS pay, meaning I would pay back to the college the income tax they paid on my mistaken wages, out of my own pocket. So her error would end up costing me about $300.
Well, there was no way I was going to accept that. So I had a meeting with her and her boss. I showed them the error that Jed had found, and Payroll Gal said "Oh, you're right, oops." Her boss rolled his eyes. Then I asked her about the income tax, and she said "Sorry, I can't get it back from the government so it has to come back to us somehow." I said "What??" and her boss said "What???" And he told her there was no way she was going to ask me to pay back money that I'd never received in the first place. Yay for him. So I ended up paying back just what I'd been overpaid and not a cent more.
-her boss also asked me what my husband did for a living, and seemed amazed that he was able to catch the mistake so easily.

So that was the good part of the day.
The rest of the day was spent finding out that the childcare place I thought was read for Toby in January is in fact NOT going to have a spot for him in January. So I've been scouring the internet and making phone calls trying to find a place that has room for him that won't put us in the poor house with the tuition. That search goes on.
