No, I like personalizing books - some collectors, however, are adament that they only want the signature.  I always have books personalized to me....
I've got a few of those "signature only" books (but not by our esteemed BK, who personalizes very nicely, thank-you).  Most of the sig only books are ones I've found in the super bargain bins, very discounted.  Kinda makes you wonder what the value of the signature is supposed to be!

Jenny, no wonder you are such a pleasure to have here, you are Maya’s friend.

Maya we really did miss you-WELCOME BACK!

TCB you gave Panni a beautiful birthday wish, fully expressing my sentiments.

WEL your review of THE COMPANY reminded me to check the credits of this film for a young man we have watched grow up.  Our families lived on the same street, for a few years, and he was my oldest son’s best friend.  They are still close.  Point of the story, I was very happy & excited to see his name under Associate Producer.

Lulu you are still beloved and I am happy you have returned.  You were the first person to respond to any of my posts which encouraged me to continue posting.

Bruce I look forward to my personalized copy of KRITZER TIME almost as much as I look forward to reading it.

Lovely HHW WHEEL OF FORTUNE vibes to Rachel, daughter of Panni/Anna.

A completed script and a happy phone call from your daughter-what a perfect birthday.  What other exciting plans do you have Panni?

Thank you, DR George!
I think I once posted the story of how I got - for twenty-five cents -  a first edition of one-act Molnar plays signed by Ferenc Molnar himself! Gotta run.

"Inscribed" items, items made out to someone, are not as valuable in re-sale as "signed" items...items simply bearing the autograph of the artist.

I'd much rather have a nice autographed photo -- "Sincerely, Barbara Cook," for instance -- than one that says, "For Wendy, a sweet fan.  All my love, Barbara Cook".

If an item is going to stay in a family, then, yes, the inscription will have much meaning for the heirs.  I would imagine that a back story would add to the value of an inscribed item on "Antiques Roadshow".  But in general, getting a signature on a photo at the theater door, or at a signing, it's potentially more valuable to eschew the personalization for future value.

I'm cheating here, since I used an on-line anagram generator, but, what the hay!  (Oh, a Subways Are for Sleeping reference.)

BRUCE KIMMEL =

IRK MUM CELEB
BUCKLE ME RIM
CRUMBLE MIKE
BRICK MULE ME
CRUMB LIKE ME
'Crumb' is a real Barbara Stanwyk word--Oh, a Boys in the Band reference.

Our Birthday Girl ANNA SANDOR = ADORN AS ANN

CHARLES POGUE =

LEACHERS GO UP
HERO PLUS CAGE
GAUCHER SLOPE
GAUCHE PROLES
COURAGE HELPS
EROS PLUG ACHE (!!!!)
CHEAPO LUGERS
HERO LUGS CAPE
LOSE HUGE CRAP
EARPLUGS ECHO
HARP ECLOGUES

Some names are particularly fecund in this regard.  The link I used was http://www.wordsmith.org/anagram/  but I suggest that you use the Advanced Search and eliminate short words, otherwise the lists are humongous.

[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]VIBES NEEDED ALERT!![/move]

Just home for a moment from today's trip to the emergency room.  My son Gabe fell at school today and broke his arm in several places.  It looked like a pretzel and it was very hard for me to stay calm as I drove him to the hospital.  He's under anesthesia now as they set it, then evidently we need to return in two days for them to put an official cast on it.  Oy, oy, oy--I thought his getting hit by a car two years ago was his "bad luck" for a lifetime.

Who's interested in the Del Rio/Gibbons home?  It's absolutely stunning, though it looks like a fortress from the street.  Later, when I am calmer, I can tell you the very funny story of the day I went there to take pictures.  Let me just say that my brother-in-law, who drove us there, was extremely paranoid about me snapping shots right and left as we drove up and down the street.  I'll look for the pics and post them after I've taken my Prozac.

Happy B-day, Panni!

Happy return, Maya!

I don't mind personally inscribed books to me...or old ones inscribed to others that I've picked up elsewhere.  A personal inscription by the author gives the book an additional history which I find interesting.

I also don't buy books as investments (though most of the books I buy do increase in value), I buy them with the intention of reading them.  Their friends; not a portfolio.

Good healing thoughts to young Gabe. Hard to believe it is so long since that leaner driver met Gabe so unexpectedly. Good postive thoughts to the whole JMK family.

Ooops, I had us in VistaVision for moment.

Anyway, thank you so much for the vibage.  Betsy just called, and he's out of surgery and awake, with, a cast evidently up to his armpit which he told me in his groggy little voice was "really cool, Dad."

Here's the DelRio house from Kingman (hopefully properly sized this time).

If you were to look one house to the left in 1941, you would no doubt have seen Miss Frances Farmer throwing her empty vodka bottles over the hedge.  :)

Hey, everyone!  I just wanted to thank you again for all the lovely and heartfelt welcome backs!  Really, I'm VERY touched.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PANNI!

Oh, I wish I could see Kim Criswell in Call Me Madam!  I think she's one of the most underrated musical theatre performers out there...I love her on the Wonderful Town recording with Audra.

I don't know how good I am with anagrams, but let's give it a shot:

Stephen Sondheim--Send The Phenoms
Eva Marie Saint--I, Same Tar Vein
Robert Preston--Rot, Probe Nest

Ooo, those are bad.

Of course, the greatest anagram was Theda Bara's--Arab Death!

And now for something completely different (a "Monty Python" reference):

I have a question (even though it's a day late).  Yesterday, I received (from amazon.com) the new Varèse Sarabande release of the "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" soundtrack.  Does anyone know if this is substantially different from the 1997 Ryko release, which I also have?  I mean, I know that the earlier Ryko release has the extra "Original Incidental Dialogue From the Film" tracks and the CD-ROM trailer and all the artwork is different, but has the sound on Varèse's new release been re-remastered and therefore better than Ryko's or is it otherwise exactly the same?  Does anyone have any information or know of websites where I can go?  Any help will be appreciated (even though I already bought and opened it).
