I'm trying to watch this new version of THE NUTCRACKER on Great Performances, but it's just not doing it for me.  Once you've seen Mark Morris' THE HARD NUT there's no going back.

Of course, not matter what version you watch or are into, you can't beat that Tchaikovsky music.

Cilla, I finished reading the new Titanic book.

What did you think?

I thought the book was carefully laid out, the theory was explained in enough detail to make sense, without overwhelming the reader, and I enjoyed the author's style.  I think that this book does probably reveal the missing piece of the puzzle that has lasted for 96 years.

Now, having said that, I was horrified by the author's lack of knowledge or research into previously known facts about the sinking; especially considering the pages of sources that he references at the end of the book.  Unfortunately, it is a little difficult to accept this bold new theory as fact, when the author doesn't know or seem to care about errors that he states as facts.

Hmmm you are making me more curious about the errors.  I've read a lot about the Titanic and it find it fascinating. I haven't focused so much on why it sunk as I have the stories of the people on board and the ship in all its grandeur. I'm not sure I know what mistakes you are referring to and would love to hear more about it

One small example is when the author talks about the Titanic shooting off red emergency rockets.  The rockets were white.  Now, that may seem like a pretty unimportant fact, except that a good portion of the testimony at both the American and British Inquiry into the sinking revolved around whether or not the white rockets fired by the Titanic, were the same white rockets seen by the ship, SS Californian on the night of April 14 - 15.  And, if so, did the SS Californian ignore an obvious distress call from another ship that night that was only a few miles away.  So, the color of the rockets in Titanic lore is a big deal, and not an unimportant fact.

Are you currently trying to sync your iPod to a new computer? or to two computers?

It's sound like you did an Auto-Sync without selecting the proper option(s).

Got a question for all and any tech guru out there.

DR MS, you won't be able to do this through iTunes--Apple is very strict about song transfers being a one-way street from iTunes to iPod.

However, there is third party software out there that will allow you to do this.  I used something on my first iPod called Anapod, which allowed two-way transfers. And I think it was able to co-exist on the same PC with iTunes.  I would not suggest using it to transfer songs TO your iPod because iTunes will not recognize them when you resync with it.

Another option, though I don't completely recall how to do it at the mo', is to set your iPod to act as an external hard drive before you attach to your PC (it has something to do with the way you push the select and forward and back controls on the click wheel at the same time.)  Then after you attach your iPod to your PC, you will be able to see it through Windows Explorer.  Then you need to change the configuration of the way you can view the iPod drive in Explorer by allowing you to view hidden folders and files.  The songs will then be visible.  The problem here is that (at least it was a problem with older iPods) the song file names are encrypted, so you really can't tell what the songs are unless you transfer the entire contents of the iPod back to your PC and then try each song.  On second thought, this probably is not a good idea.  I would try looking for third party sorftware instead...

Back from a surprisingly fun LACCTAA party - as usual, hardly any actual alums could be bothered to show up, but the current students were all there and very appreciative of the food and liquid refreshment.  I didn't eat anything and afterwards went to an Eyetalian jernt called Palermo where I had a salad and spaghetti with one meatball and one sausage, and a couple pieces of garlic bread.  I basically ate the sausage and the meatball and about a quarter of the spaghetti, leaving the rest, and now I am very full indeed.

Actually... If his iPod was synced with that particular computer and iTunes library, then you can "sync" back to iTunes.  -It works the same way iPhone purchases work with iTunes - they sync to iTunes from your phone.

I think.

;)

*DR Michael S - Do you happen to know if the music files have also been deleted from your computer?  -Just look under "Music -> iTunes -> iTunes Music ->".  -If you still see folders with Artist names - as well as .m4p files in those folders, then your music is still on your computer.

I managed to get more watched tonight than I expected. I began with 2 1/2 more episodes of THE TUDORS. Even though most of the shows are almost an hour long, they pass by pretty quickly. I'm enjoying seeing them all again.

Anne has given birth to Elizabeth and miscarried the next child, gradually losing Henry's love day by day. George and Mark are getting close. And Sir Thomas More is now in the Tower but not yet beheaded.

At 8:35, I stopped watching THE TUDORS and watched last night's episode of LEVERAGE. Another enjoyable outing even if it didn't quite measure up to the first two. Still, some good surprises and fake-outs by both sides.

And one of the main guest stars is that wonderful actor who plays the psychotic Dr. Charles Walker on MEDIUM. Always enjoy seeing him on any show.

LAW & ORDER had a good one tonight, too, with Ned Beatty as a judge on the edge of dementia. The case itself was interesting, and then the whole judge problem took over the hour. Very unusual.

Eh?  What's that?  The Cannonball is idle?  Cancelled?  How'm I suppose to get to Pixley?

I'm listening to Mr Michael Ball's "Back to Bacharach" CD. He uses the same effective (to me) gimmick of choosing songs usually associated with female singers.

Wasn't there a Bacharach tribute concert somewhere recently?
