I had a great time at the family Hanukah partay last night, at the home of my sister Rikki's son, Jeremy, and his wife. Freshly fried potato latkes with sour cream and caviar, brisket, salad, wads of special cheeses and grapes, a medley of winter vegetables, and Rikki's fresh blackberry cobbler and hand-made English butter toffee.
We had all agreed NO GIFTS, except for something none-too-extreme for Tami's grandchild. Fine - then Rikki brought everyone original art depicting the ol' days in LA - Kiddieland where the Beverly Center is now, Hamilton High, Santa Monica Pier, and LA Airport when it was very new and Space Age-looking. I got the Hamilton High piece... And Tami - who is a demented shopaholic - decimated the Macy's sweater department and gave all and sundried assembled each a sweater. Mike and I just rolled our eyes - no gifts, right?? Says Tami, "It was all on sale!" Says Rikki, "I already had them, and had never hung them!"
There will be gifts aplenty, I tell you, for Tina today!! Her Dear Brother Jeff actually sent a present - apparently some tiny hotel soaps and hair conditioner and lotion from one of his vacations. Nice. She was totally thrilled, of course - considering ANY attention from him AT ALL manna from heaven. <sigh>
