I am watching LIBELED LADY starring Myrna Loy, William Powell, Spencer Tracy, and Jean Harlow.

I love the remake EASY TO WED with Esther Williams, Van Johnson, Keenan Wynn, and Lucille Ball - but it is a bit lackluster in comparison.

Good morning, all! And a Very Happy New Year to everyone from West 82nd Street.

I have a bit more gift wrapping to attend to and then dinner with my friend Bruce Pomahac. At some point today I need to unpack the BABES IN TOYLAND cartons I shipped from Ohio and get back to work on Act One notes. Bruce is stopping by here before dinner to see the "new look" of the apartment, so there's some tidyng to do as well. First thing, empty my 2007 receipts into a shopping bag so I can begin this year's IRS prep.

I spoke to Charlotte last night and Sunday is our gift exchange day and a movie, most likely Benjamin Button's Curious Tale.

DR singdaw, in answer to your question about dropping balls: I think it may be only once; you should have been around 12. If not, see your doctor.

DR Ginny, kudos on your retirement! How did you and Richard like CRANFORD?

Happy Birthday to Mrs Druxy!

I'm off to work! Heigh-ho. Wish I had a diamond mine.

Hmmm--I have some gift wrapping to do as well.  I will be driving to my sister's house this afternoon for her New Year's Day dinner (roast pork and saurkraut).  We will also celebrate my niece's husband's birthday.  This is normally a fun get-together but my niece's husband's parents will also be there, so we all have to "behave".

Thank you, DR Elmore!  Richard and I have watched only the first 3 episodes (disc 1) so far and will get back to the second disc after today's parade and football viewing.  We are enjoying the series immensely, even though the second and third episodes ended sadly.

Good morning!

Cold but very clear and pretty out this morning. Not getting out of the 40s today or tomorrow, so I'll be inside all of today.

Wonderful film, but boy is the DVD is bad shape! I guess that was the best print of the movie Warners could find, but it looks terrible compared to some other movies of the same period.

Well, at the least the Hollywood Foreign Press saw some merit in SCROOGE. Albert Finney won the Best Actor Golden Globe for his performance, and it was nominated for Best Film, Best Screenplay, Best Song, and Best Score.

I have raved here many times about the film. I, too, think it's Bricusse's best work, and "Happiness" is one of the most haunting songs to come from a movie ever. It is the one Christmas themed movie I return to each year. I don't get around to IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE or other versions of A CHRISTMAS CAROL every year, but I NEVER fail to watch SCROOGE, and I'll likely watch it again within a few months just because I love it so much.

I was one of those crowds of people who saw it at Radio City Music Hall, and on the big screen with the stereophonic sound, it was quite an experience. The moment in "See the Phantoms" when that hideous ghost comes right at the camera had me flinching in my seat. I literally ducked!

Since I'm taking the day off today, I'll be watching nothing with a note pad in my lap. Instead, I know I'll watch one of my CHristmas presents - the Blu-ray of BODY HEAT, but I'll likely save that for this evening. This afternoon I may have a THIN MAN marathon or a Miss Marple marathon.

I know I'll watch another Season 3 NCIS episode while I eat lunch.

On TV Tonight!™

NBC - DEAL OR NO DEAL
PBS - GREAT PERFORMANCES (Vienna Philharmonic), CINEMA EXILES: FROM HITLER

CBS is having all reruns tonight, but for fans of THE BIG BANG THEORY and HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, they're rerunning an episode apiece for them in the 8 p.m. hour.

My Mac is having a hard time with pdf files. When I try to download one to my desktop  from an email I get this message: pdf could not be saved because an unknown error occurred. Try saving to a different location.

This has just started occurring and I wonder if it's due to one of my software updates? Things seemed to be fine before I went away.

I got a Peanuts daily calendar for Christmas, so now I'll have recycled Charlie Brown every day during the coming year. I enjoy the strip so much, and the cartoons all seem new to me even though I have been reading the strip since the late 1960s.

And Jean Harlow is TOP billed!

DR GINNY now that you are retired, prepare to be busier than ever.  For me, one of the best things about it is being able to shop during non-peak hours.

I also loved "Scrooge." My much older sister took me to see it in the theater. She mentioned she would like to see it again, and I couldn't find it in a store, so I bought it for her on Amazon and had it sent to her. It didn't get there before I left, so I didn't get to see it.

Well, I my morning internet surfing is completed, so I guess I'll head on downstairs now to start the rest of my day off. I'm mad there is no mail delivery today (or UPS), but I have plenty to keep me busy.

Oh, I started reading Farley Granger's autobiography the other night. He has a very simple writing style which makes reading it a breeze.

I finished watching SERENADE....with Mr Mario Lanza and Ms Joan Fontaine and Mr Vincent Price.

The gay subtext of the James Cain novel is not apparent in the screenplay by Goff & Roberts and John Twist.
