My favorite teacher was W. O. McKeown, my high school chemistry teacher. I adored his style of teaching. He was very intelligent, very erudite, and ran his classroom in such an organized fashion that I molded my teaching style on him. Years later, I did get the chance to tell him how much his teaching meant to me and how I emulated his teaching style in my classroom. He blushed when I told him that, but he was nice enough to compliment me as a serious-minded, dedicated student that made teaching a pleasure for him.
Other greats:
fifth grade: Miss Margaret Ferguson
high school: Mrs. Matrell Plyler (10th English)
Mrs. Kitty Jackson (Trig, Algebra IV/Pre Calculus)
Miss Hannah Duncan (Latin II, French I)
Mrs. Louise Williams (U.S. History)
college: Dr. Marcus Glover (Spanish I, Spanish II)
Dr. Neal Prater (Shakespeare, English Lit.)
Dr. Alton King (Modern Novel, World Lit, Modern Poetry, Advanced Grammar)
The only college professors I really turned onto were those who engaged the class in discussion of assignments. Those who merely came into the room and lectured for an hour were not favorites.
