Monday afternoon greetings!  My breakfast meeting with 2 friends who are starting a consulting business was fun and informative.  I did some errands on the way home, including grocery shopping.  At the deli counter, I ran into Jenny, our realtor friend, and told her about the house we wanted to look at.  She's going to call soon and we'll probably go over this afternoon.

One of my favorite songs is from With Six You get Eggroll:

Brisk, lively, merry and bright
An egg roll
So crispy morning and night
An egg roll

or something like that

Are you going to get your check this month?

Do you mean my retirement check (well, automatic deposit)?  Yes, I got the January payment on the 12th and expect the February payment on January 30.  Whew!

I've been practicing the piano parts for the Nudie songs, which we'll be recording sometime in a week or two.

WOW!  Here's a pic of yesterday's concert and crowd(!!!) taken from the top of the Washington Monument:

WOW!!

*And tomorrow, everything in the foreground and "behind" will be filled with people.
And every single one of them will have a frozen tushy!

And lots of cold feet! I bet the Red Cross could hand out a lot of socks to that group!

No......he moved out of the house into the camper, Doris was mad and drove off, and didn't realize Brian had fallen out the back - in his sparkling white cotton boxers.

And the profit could help pay the salary of the East Coast Red Cross Executive Director....of course the more donations they get, the higher that salary goes.

Today is a marvelous day to work. It's quiet and there are few distractions. Edith and I visited a couple people in jail this morning.  I gave her the rest of the day off.   Soon I will be going to the dentist and then back here to get some writing and research done while the phone isn't ringing and the door is locked.

Der Brucer can be quite silly at times.

It seems that, during the night, someone left a lot of powdery "stupid white stuff" (his description) all over our yard, and the driveway, and the car.

Now he wants me to scrape it off the driveway before I go to work.

I suppose I could suggest that he scrape it himself.  Does anyone out there think he'd actually do it?
 ::)

But der Brucer has no need to use the car today, unless somrbody doesn't want to walk home from work in the cold and dark at 7PM.

(If it snowed much more, or froze over, I would be unable to get the car up the drive, so we have to move it up to the front yard - actually the road sholder - so it can be used.)

der Brucer

He did a very nice job :)

As for those "ants" - They were just enjoying the concert with everyone else.

I think they had jumbo-tron monitors set up all over the Mall.

Most of the Jumbo-Trons for the concert were set up along the sides of the Reflecting Pool.  The ones on The Mall proper, apparently, weren't turned on for the concert.  However, I will say that the Reflecting Pool actually seems to carry the sound quite nicely across the Mall.

I'm awake, I'm awake!  Finally a day to sleep past 6:30am, and finally a day to catch up here at HHW.  Today I shall not leave the house!  Well, that's the plan, anyway, we'll see.  I have to get started on some orchestrations for Anything Goes - speaking of said show, Tams-Whitmark sent the WRONG orchestrations for our show, which I had a dream that they would, so we're hoping the exchange doesn't take weeks as I have some transpositions and cuts and pastes to do with the existing orchestration.  This really seems like a lot of work for a middle school show...

TOD -  Still waiting for a CD release of the OCR of  Leader of the Pack

I am trying to imagine a Middle School Reno Sweeney.

Weren't you really thinking about a middle school BLOW, GABRIEL, BLOW?

I just spoke with a friend who is up in DC for the Inaugural Festivities, and she attended the concert yesterday.  Yes, the DC Metro system was jammed. Yes, she ended up walking about four miles yesterday in order to get to the Lincoln Memorial.  However, she said that it didn't feel that cold yesterday partly due to the fact that it wasn't that windy yesterday, and also due to all those bodies huddled up next to each other.  True body heat.

*And she's planning on getting in line tomorrow morning by 4:30am in order to get a viewing spot for the Parade and Ceremony.  -The National Park Service is, apparently, "opening" The Mall at 4:00am for people to start getting in "line".

Thank you, DAWG.  There seemed to be a gap of about half the reflecting pool, so Jumbo-trons would explain that.

TOD:

I've mentiond this every time we do this topic: STARS OF THE SILVER SCREEN 1929-1930 which contains studio recordings of some big stars' talkie film debuts (Fannie Brice, George Jessel, Everett Marshall, John Boles. Maurice Chavelier, Jeanette MacDonald, Gloria Swanson).

The London cast recording of HELLO, DOLLY! with Mary Martin.

B'way: A TIME FOR SINGING, THE THREEPENNY OPERA (1976).

DR Matt, the HELLO DOLLY!  is available through ArkivMusic.com:
http://www.arkivmusic.com/classical/album.jsp?album_id=202001

How could I forget John Morris' glorious A TIME FOR SINGING?

Thank you so much, DR Elmore! The last time we had this topic, you directed me to the PORGY AND BESS soundtrack, and now HELLO, DOLLY! You are the greatest!

I think the Mary Martin version is my very favorite HELLO, DOLLY!  I do love the Pearl Bailey version, because that is the cast I saw on Broadway; but I think I still prefer the London cast.

I always liked the Mary Martin recording because the tour that ended in London began in Cincinnati and I saw the production.  Martin was a fantastic Dolly Gallagher Levi.

For JFK's "do" we were in formation at about 9AM - and damn near froze to death by Noon.

And after the parade, I hit the bar, and waited for my date to change for the Inaugural Ball.

I was getting ready for my walk, so I vacuumed the floors, sprayed the pesticide and my blood sugar dropped quite drastically. I had to run around the corner to the coffee shop where I had some orange juice and a bite to eat. I'll go on my walk in about an hour.
