Continued TOD:
So, while we were returning home from the store, I mentioned to der B that Julie Taymor is teaming with those guys from U2 who've traded in their real names for the monikers Bono and The Edge, in a return to Broadway. So what's the project? Spiderman, the Musical. (Be afraid, be very afraid.) So der B got to wondering if there were any other musicals based on superhero comic books. "It's a Bird, It's a Plane..." I started.
"No, really, are there any..."
"No, really, there was a show called It's a Bird, It's a Plane, it's Superman," I finished. To prove it (don't I always do this?) when we got home I fished out our copy of Jason Graae Sings Charles Strouse: You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile, and skipped ahead to the fourth track: "You've Got Possibilities," probably the best song from the score.
And then the next day I took the disc in with me to work.
There's a lot of good stuff on that disc. There's a couple of misses (I've never cared for the pairing of "Maybe" and "One Last Kiss," they mesh melodically but the lyrics have nothing to do with one another, sorry), but by and large I really enjoy it.
So, I'm suddenly finding myself on a Jason Graae kick. Not his entire oeuvre (trying to carry all those discs with me to work would throw out my back... what did he do, BK, have a cot set up in the studio so you would have to include him on every recording you made?), just some of the major ones. Like the Cinegrill disc. And probably Forbidden Hollywood. Der B and I saw him do both shows, it's only fitting.
QUESTION FOR OUR ESTEEMED BK!
What do you hear from Mr. Graae of late? Are you still in touch? Has he found better sleeping arrangements? (Those recording studios can get awfully drafty, I hear.)
Just curious.
