Looks like that man may have ridden our light rail recently, much to Mae-Ling's dismay.

DR Sam I'm glad you aren't afraid of all dogs.  People are shocked to learn I was afraid of large dogs as a child.  Odd, since only a small dog ever bit me.  A few too many times my small self ended up between our miniature/toy Poodle & a large dog that intended harm to our little dog.

I eventually grew some & learned how to read dogs.  The combination has made life more relaxing.  I really feel for people who are afraid of dogs & try to watch out for them when we walk down the street with our 107 pound dog.

Good Evening!

Day one - 270 auditions - done, and just two more day (another 540 auditions) to go!

Whew!

*But that's a "good" Whew!  The anxiety and stress level seemed really low today among the auditionees, and that made all the difference in the world in regards to how the pacing of the day felt.  In fact, when we broke for lunch at 1:00, I thought it was only Noon.  -And that was a good thing, a very good thing.  And the afternoon session went by "fast" too.  :)

DR JRand - I am in Birmingham, AL, for the annual Southeastern Theatre Conference.  I am the pianist for the Professional Division auditions.  About 270 auditionees each day, singing and acting their hearts for about 70 companies in attendance.

DR JRand - In regards to your computer "problem", if there's nothing that you need on your brother's(?) old computer, do you have the option to reformat the drive, and then just reload whatever software you need, want?

I liked "Ugly Betty" a lot too.  And the previews for the next episode - in two weeks - look good too.

As for the Topic of the Day...

For some reason, I'm thinking Judy Kuhn's "Just In Time" album was my first BK-produced CD I ever bought. -At least it's the first I remember buying.  But it might have been "Unsung Musicals (I)" or "Unsung Irving Berlin".  -Strangely enough, it took a few years to "catch up" on "Unsung Sondheim" - mainly because I already had almost all of those songs in manuscript (sheet music copies) via the Library of Congress.

How much time does each auditioner get?

Acting - 60 seconds
Singing - 60 seconds
Acting & Singing - 90 seconds

*Of course, in truth, most people only "need" 10 seconds.  Either way. ;)

Oh, and managed to stumble into the "Presenter's Reception" after I was done playing. So, I was able to enjoy a free dinner and drinks. Well, I only had one beer, but it was still free.  :)

...And, apparently, some big theatrical and TV agent stepped into the room today to observe the auditions.  Afterwards, he talked with the President of SETC.  She told me that he was SHOCKED to learn that I did not rehearse with each of the singers before I played for them.  So, apparently, he's going to be contacting me once I get back to NYC.

And right now, I'm sitting down in the "Link@Sheraton" - which is the free internet hub for the hotel.  It is only 9:10pm here right now, but my computer is still on NYC time, 10:10pm.  However, I have a feeling I'll be heading to bed sooner than later.  I got up early today, and had a good hour and a half to fully wake up before I had to give the audition briefing and start playing. Made all the difference in the world, and I'm going to try to do the same thing tomorrow.

*Of course, I just realized that since Sunday is Daylight Savings Time, I'll be losing an hour the night before I fly back to NYC.  :-\
