Michael S -   NO SPOILER YET - I'LL WARN PEOPLE WHEN THE SPOILER IS ABOUT TO BE REVEALED

Charles Isherwood in the Times said, as quoted on the ourtownoffbroadway.com website

"A WONDERFULLY INTIMATE AND HIGHLY REWARDING PRODUCTION. A surprise Mr. Cromer springs – A beautiful feat of stagecraft that transmits the essence of Wilder's philosophy with an overwhelming sensory immediacy."

- Charles Isherwood, The New York Times

That special surprise they spring with sensory immediacy is

SPOILER RE THE CURRENT PRODUCTION OF "OUR TOWN"

The smell of bacon permeates the theater, and bacon is fried right there on the stage.

Fred, very funny video! I rated and commented. I can only rate once until I clear out my cookies, then I can go back and rate again.

I managed to get through 4 1/2 more episodes of MISSION IMPOSSIBLE. All were pretty good episodes and with lots of guest stars. Nice to see Leonard Frey in an episode. Also was surprised to see a very young Joe Don Baker and Billy Dee Williams.

Elizabeth Ashley was probably the most famous of the female guest stars in the episodes I watched. And she played two different roles which gave her more to do in the episode than series regular Lynda Day George.

Then I watched tonight's AMERICAN IDOL. Even though the DVR had programmed the show to go one minute over, they still didn't finish on time! (They also only allowed two judges' comments per singer which also helped.) And I did get to hear all 7 singers, but the recap got lopped off on the DVR.

Apart from Adam who blew everyone else out of the water with "Born to Be Wild," I felt almost everyone else started very weakly. Some redeemed themselves during the latter portions of their songs (Allison, Anoop, Danny). Others just never pulled it together for me: Matt, Lil, Kris. Those three would be my bottom three this week. I honestly think Lil should go home. I thought her version of "The Rose" was very poor.

I concluded my evening with RESCUE ME. Some really funny bits tonight, and some poignant ones, too, with Franco talking about his theories concerning 9/11. Probie Mike and Probie Sean were, as always, hilarious in their idiocy.

Mary Stuart was an excellent production. Even with a piece of historical inaccuracy (Mary and Elizabeth never met but they do in the show) it was worth it. A strong cast, both Brits (including Brian Murray) and Americans (including John Benjamin Hickey). It's amazing how a well done British accent can work wonders (go back to my comments on the Philanthropist which was full of bad British accents). A friend who saw it said it was talky and too long but I didn't think so. It's hard to compress all that history into a short time. I think 2 and 1/2 hours is time enough for the battle between Elizabeth I and Mary Stuart. The production began at the Donmar Warehouse before transferring to the West End and then, eventually, here. Since it began at the Donmar they decided to keep the sparse look with only the two Queens looking at all period. It worked very well with all the men in modern business suits and the Queens in period dress. It rained on stage at one point. Since he invented the meeting between Elizabeth and Mary I wonder if the brief respite from prison and playing in the rain was a created moment as well. If it was, it worked, giving Mary and her servant a chance to relax before the confrontation.

I don't think it's selling that well. It's on TDF and half-price all the time. English history is not on the minds of the New York theatre goer. Oh, well. Their loss.

Thanks, Ben!

I'd heard of people calling their friends and asking them to give ratings of 1 to movies on imdb, but I'd never heard of this happening on youtube.  Whoever did those four 1's did them within a few hours of one another (the average flew down to 2 very very quickly), and I'll obviously never know what caused that effort.  I got a couple of 1's on the FISH video, but there were enough 5's on that to offset the 1's easily.    I tried disabling the ratings, but then when people googled or searched or looked at my menu, the average comes up even if ratings are disabled.

Good Evening!

Tonight's final tech run-thru went well.  There are a still a few transitions to work out, but we should be able to take care of most of those things during the day tomorrow before the cast is called in for a brief rehearsal before the "pay what you can" preview - our first audience.

Otherwise, the show is shaping up nicely, and I really think having an audience tomorrow night will help the rest of the "stuff" fall into place.  I just hope that the cast is prepared for some real, honest to goodness laughter tomorrow night. -And I hope we hear some honest to goodness laughter tomorrow night too! ;)

DR FJL - I guess that whole "sensory" thing must be "in" right now. I mean, the pre-show for Happiness at Lincoln Center.... Well.. If you read the reviews, it's all revealed there.

Some day I should record a ride to downtown Phoenix, which would be all the blight along Washington Street.

Now that I would recognize...this I didn't recognize at all

DR Druxy - I'm sorry to hear about the delay.  -Did the moving company initially give you an estimated time of arrival?  If so, would it possible for them to reimburse you for part of your hotel stay?  In any case...  Enjoy the view of the brick wall.  ;)

And since I came back to the offices to work on my taxes... -I had left some of my forms in NYC, and they didn't get to me until this past weekend, so... And lo and behold! I'm getting a refund this year!  A small refund, but a refund nonetheless. :)

And I have a pretty good feeling that once I get back to the apartment, I shall be heading right to bed, so...

Goodnight.

It sure seemed she had no understanding of the song.

So, Idol fans, will Adam Lambert break way from his recent mellow demeanor, and go back to his rock persona tonight?

der Brucer

I had a feeling he's return to something rock, and I wasn't wrong!

He was also BY FAR the best singer/performer of the night. He makes everyone else look like real amateurs.

"Someone" very savvy is guiding his song selections. As Simon noted, "Some people will love it, some people will hate it" - true, the rock fans who may have strayed from his camp the last three weeks, will return; a smart choice to consolidate a divergent fan base.
