Ben, when I queried about the album here I hadn't heard it yet - the minute I heard it I knew I had to do it, because the arrangements are so fun and I just love the whole smaller feel of the show.

Even just listening to Donald's CR-R of Something Cold to Drink makes you realize what a good number it is. I'm looking forward to getting it.

I haven't mentioned the title because you should all listen to Donald's show  ;D

Listening to The Broadway Radio Show.

And I have a Trivia Question:

What other piece of musical theatre (besides Illya Darling) has a song entitile "Po Po Po"?

I warn you, I have only my memory to rely on and have not found any documentation on this.

I don't Know the show but Ethel Merman sang a song called PO-PO-POCAHONTAS

ORR WAS IT NANETTE FABREY?

Much more esoteric than that.  Extreeemely esoteric.

Hint:  Cuba is involved.

I'll take one more stab....

Musical- TOO MANY GIRLS

Song- POTTAWATOMIE

which has the following Larry Hart Lyric--"SO THAT EVERY TOT OF ME THAT IS BEGOT OF ME WILL GO TO POT-POT-POTTAWATOMIE"

The Show Introduced DESI ARNAZ to Broadway

We are back from a lovely outing to Findlay Market with my friend Lori.  She shared a lot of "dish" from my old workplace and we took her for a tour of Mt. Adams and Eden Park.  My lunch was a vegetarian crepe from the Taste of Belgium stand - roasted red peppers, spinach, and goat cheese in a buckwheat flour crepe with a balsamic glaze.

I have a feeling that Borders will also be on their way out very soon if they can't make money from music and movies how could they do it from just books??

According to Publishers Weekly, the end is nigh.

Border's started (quietly) liquidating their CD & DVD stock a while ago (relatively).  -You could probably get a more exact date from DR td. :-\

The liquidation began quietly in February; MOST Borders stores are getting rid of at least 70% of their inventory of cds and dvds.  Of course, with Borders trying to be the next Amazon, those titles no longer in stores will still be available online. . .
What we're seeing is both a last-ditch effort to find Borders' place in the retail world as well as a first-ditch effort to become a better online store.

I am leaving work soon, so I will give the answer to my Trivia Question:

The song "Po Po Po" is from the Cuban zarauela Cecilia Valdés by Gonzalo Roig.  If you follow the amazon link, the second selection is a snippet of "Po Po Po".

You see, back when we played these things called phonograph records, there was a publicaiton called the Swann Catalog, which was a joy to thumb through.  I belonged to a record club that offered a 40% discount on everything in the catalog for a few years before it morphed into a typical "Buy One Blockbuster a Month" club.  That's where I got all the foreign cast albums of My Fair Lady.

But the category was called "Operettas, Musicals, and Zarzuelas".  The word intrigued me, and I looked about in the public library and found one, count'em, one (1) recording of a zarzuela, the above-mentioned Cecilia Valdés, which was actually performed at the Metropolitan Opera in 1965.

So now you know more than you want to about Cecilia Valdés and zarzuelas.  The rest can be wikied.

Joining me is not out of the question; a Borders' clerk or barrista position is questionable.

Moving right along...

After Dear World came Debbie Does Dallas, the musical, which deserves one or two kind words--but no more.

It did mark one of the first lead performances of Sherie Rene Scott, later to appear on Broadway in Aïda and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

And the album has a hidden track.  Well, not quite hidden, because they tell you about it on the CD case.  And it isn't a Kimmel-type track, i.e. the last part of a long track containing lots of silence.  It is a separate track preceded by several silent tracks of a few seconds each, presumably so that it will be track # 69.

And I think that's about all worth saying about the album.

Topic of the Day:

In my CD player:  "Two for the Seesaw" and a Bette Midler 4-pack from Costco:  "The Divine Miss M," "Broken Blossom," Thighs and Whispers" and "Some People's Lives."  The Bette 4-pack was only $19 total!

So... After staying up all night - I just wasn't sleep, I went to breakfast at out on Isle of Palms, and then I came back here and started watching some TV.  The next thing I knew it was 3:00.  Sleep is good.  I just hope I can get to bed at semi-normal hour tonight since I want to check out the Charleston Farmers Market tomorrow morning.
