TOD:

Favorite Steve McQueen movie unquestionably is THE GREAT ESCAPE. I love that film.

Other favorites: LOVE WITH THE PROPER STRANGER, BULLITT, THE CINCINATTI KID, THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR.

I don't think I've ever seen SOLDIER IN THE RAIN. I'll have to keep an eye out for it on TCM so I can see if I want to have a permanent copy in the archives. It certainly sounds appealing.

Today I begin eight successive days of Blu-ray review copies of movies from Fox and MGM. I'm beginning today with THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY. I'm eager to see this again since it got very upbeat response at the time of its release (Cameron Diaz even won the New York Film Critics' Best Actress prize for this!), but my initial reponse was something less than upbeat. I'm eager to revisit it again, this time with a more critical eye.

There are also a TON of bonus features on this disc, at least according to the liner notes. Looks like I'll be working on this all afternon and evening.

GET SMART premieres on HBO-HD tonight. I didn't see it at the theater and I haven't seen it on DVD/Blu-ray, so I'll be recording this for some future viewing date. I'm curious to see what they did with the original material from the series. Other than Steve Carrell and Anne Hathaway, I don't even know who's in it.

THE BLOB

As a side note, a couple of my interviewees worked with Steve McQueen on his television series. They did not enjoy the experiece.

Sat down last night to watch the 1952 Margaret Rutherford film CASTLE IN THE AIR which I had DVR'd off of TCM.

Unfortunately there was some sort of mix up and they had shown instead another film from 1952 titled CASTLE IN THE AIR starring Frankie Laine and Charlotte Austin.  :(

Guess I'll do some computer tidying up and then head down to check the mail and then start on fixing some lunch.

We will try to finish watching Star. Our DVD player is wonky and we may have to purchase a new one.

We went to the Cottage (on Irving Place) for dinner last night. It's our favorite Chinese place. I had Chicken with Two Nuts (peanuts and cashews) on a bed of fresh green beans with brown rice.

I will go to TKTS on Tuesday again to see if I can get a ticket for God of Carnage. The show is doing well but they are not selling out so there is no standing room. It's the last show I want to see before the Tonys though I should try to see Exit the King and Reasons to Be Pretty. Those are on TDF. Waiting for Godot is not (at this time).

I did see that Steve McQueen film about racing, was it Le Mans? I was a teenager. I left before it was over.

Haven't been to the Cottage in many a year.  Is it very close to the Vineyard Theater?  I seem to recall eating there before seeing something at the Vineyard.
