Here is a new page dance that might be of interest to DR CP.

Yes, indeedy.  Mosby is named after him and his nickname.  "Gray Ghost is what they called him.  Cat Mosby was his name!"

Merde and similar opening night salutations!

Written by Indiana's own Cole Porter.

Two of the most sophisticated men of the 20th Century - Porter and Clifton Webb - came from Indiana....well, three if you count me.

And you should because when it comes to sophistication, I am one of the first hogs to the trough.

Busness news:

Quote
...crude oil edged closer to $70 per barrel, sending the energy sector more than 2% higher. Individual names like Hess (HESS: undefined, undefined, undefined%) and Cabot Oil & Gas (COG: 35.86, 1.84, 5.41%) jumped even further. Crude oil was on track to reclaim virtually all of Wednesday’s tumble thanks to a weaker dollar, inflation worries and a prediction from Goldman Sachs for $95 oil by 2010. Crude closed up $2.69 per barrel, or 4.07%, to $68.81 -- a fresh 2009 high.

Note to BK:

Well head prices up - gasoline increase will follow.

Prediction of $95 will fuel speculation - gasoline increase will follow

All of the above not under control of the US Government or the US Oil Companies.

THE LISTENER has gotten miserable reviews in every place I've checked, so in this case, I think I'm going  to let those guide me and leave it alone. I have other things I can watch.

When I got in from lunch, I immediately put in THE SEVENTH SEAL. Well, it's a masterpiece, of course, and much more accessible than most people might think it would be. Bergman has this reputation among those who have heard of him but don't actually know the films to be this heavy-handed, symbolic director of slow, heavy drama.

Actually, the film is diverting from beginning to end, and this one is barely an hour and a half and is over before you realize it. I really loved seeing it again after all these years. I guess I can put my Criterion laserdisc out to pasture now.

I sampled some of Peter Cowie's commentary. It's the same one from the laserdisc, but I did listen to a good bit of it to familiarize myself with it again.

I had time to watch some of the bonus features on disc one. There's the 2003 introduction by Bergman himself who counts this among his ten best films (no kidding!). Peter Cowie has filmed some additional thoughts about the movie some 20 years after he recorded the commentary track on the laserdisc. And I watched the 7+ minute piece by Woody Allen made for Turner Class Movies on his favorite Bergmans and what he has meant to him as a filmmaker and a viewer.

Also on disc one is the trailer and a Max Von Sydow audio interview which I haven't gotten to yet. Then, there's BERGMAN ISLAND tonight and other bonuses on disc two. All that will be done when I go back downstairs.

The Blu-ray for THE SEVENTH SEAL is probably going to be out of this world because the DVD is among the best DVD transfers I've ever seen on any disc. Easily the equal of CASABLANCA on DVD in terms of sharpness, depth of field, fine detail, and lack of artifacts, this is a GREAT transfer.

BABY WHITE RHINO DEBUTS AT MADRID ZOO
MADRID —  Only a month old and already in a bad mood, a baby white rhino conceived through artificial insemination is delighting keepers at a Spanish zoo.

The animal weighed about 140 pounds (65 kilograms) at birth and now tips the scales at 220 pounds (100 kilograms). Its mother, named Marina, gave birth after a 509-day pregnancy.

509 day pregnancy to deliver a 140 pound baby - no wonder the Mom's grouchy!

I'm going to be a very busy bee over the next two weeks. I got this enormous package from Disney today with five Blu-rays: LOST - Season 1 and LOST - Season 2 along with MORNING LIGHT, THE MIRACLE, and THE GREATEST GAME EVER PLAYED. Combine that with the Criterions I have that are all due on June 16th, and my players are going to be working overtime!

Oy!

(I love it.)

Betsy is very concerned--she just found out her father needs immediate quadruple bypass surgery, which he is scheduled for in an emergency operation tomorrow.  Vibes, please.

Thank goodness they discovered this in time!

I'm sure he will be fine when it's over. My brother-in-law had quintuple bypass and is doing quite well now.
