TOD:  The Lovely Wife occasionally talks in her sleep.  One night she muttered:

"The only thing Ricardo Montalban's umbrella is good for is as a conversation piece, because...he can't dance."

That's one dream I would've liked to have crawled into, just to know what that meant.

Good morning, all! I have a blood test as 10:45 and then I'm off to Toyland for some research, to drop off some books and papers, and to bring home a few items.

Tonight, I'm dining at Chez Josephine on 42nd Street with friends I've not seen in at least 5 years. I'm a bit embarrassed because I really wanted to go to Chez Napoleon and I gave them the wrong name! I'm too old to say blame it on my youth.

It's The First thing to go and I forget what the second thing is.

Good morning!

Another hot as Hades day here. Going to the mid-90s, and even when I got the newspaper at 7:30, the air was warm and still. A very good day to stay inside.

The site where I work to write reviews is going to a new server and format next week, and I was on the dummy board this morning trying to post a review and continually getting stymied with the software. I'd get the review written and ready to post, but when I'd hit the button to post, my screen would go brown/gray and nothing was happening plus all the work was lost.

They may be getting a lot fewer reviews from me if I can't figure out what's going on here. Argh!

TOD:

I'm sure I HAVE overheard stuff, sometimes about friends or friends of friends, but that wouldn't have any meaning for anyone here.

Tonight I'll be working on SPACEBALLS on Blu-ray for my work project (it's been out more than a week, but I just got the review copy on Thursday). Since I've seen the film many times, I'll watch the bonus features this afternoon knowing there will be phone calls during the afternoon that will interrupt viewing.

FLASHPOINT was preempted last night when my local CBS affiliate showed a movie instead from 9-11. They did run it in the early morning hours (naturally, the recorded broadcast will be SD and not HD) and I recorded it, so I may or may not watch it while I eat lunch today depending on whether the DVR captured the entire show. I didn't set it to go over the estimated time of recording.

If I decide not to watch it, I'll have THE FASHION SHOW from Thursday night I can watch while I eat lunch.

I, too, am up, thanks to a loud electric saw doing its work at eight-thirty.  I'm not sure if it was even coming from next door.  And now, of course, it's completely silent outside.  Well, tomorrow it will be quiet.

Greetings from Toyland! The AC is running and it's quite refreshing and cool. I've got some writing to do before I catch the bus uptown.

I've been sending emails to my frien  Kim Kowalke and they keep bouncing back to me; I understand that the Musicals in Mufti KNICKERBOCKER HOLIDAY is being recorded with 2 pianos, and I think that's terrible. Here's a chance for a real recording of the score and an orchestra should be used. The new Kurt Weill Edition to my knowledge hasn't even added KNICKERBOCKER HOLIDAY to its priority list of editions, I don't believe, and if they're waiting to record the completed with a band, I could be long dead: the KWE was announced arond 1993, and we've been waiting for over 12 years for the editions of LADY IN THE DARK and ONE TOUCH OF VENUS!

DR DAW - Right now, The High Line is only open from 7:00am-10:00pm.  I'm not sure if there are plans to eventually keep it open 24 hours, but that may change once the rest of it - up to 31st Street - opens up at the end of next year.

*Because of the Renegade Cabaret last night, I ended up staying until The High Line closed.  The park rangers started clearing everyone out at 9:45pm, and there was one particularly "emphatic" ranger who was trying to make sure everyone cleared out on time. Thankfully, her "entreaties" had a tinge of humor to them instead of NYC-rudeness.  Although, maybe NYC-rudeness is humorous to me now.  ;)

DR elmore - Have you tried sending Kim that email from another email account?  Maybe there's some sort of block.  -Unless the bounce-back error message is saying that the email address is unknown.

Good morning!

Does anyone in here have any experiences cruises with Norwegian Cruise Lines?  DH Jed and I are considering taking a Mexican Riviera cruise next April with another couple we know.  They have already booked it, and Jed and I are deciding whether or not to join them.  The reviews I can find online are quite mixed.

Anyone??

NCL is a good cruise line.  However, some of their ships are better than others.  See if you can track down reviews for the exact itinerary and ship that you will be on.

I've sailed on NCL once, and had a wonderful time. I believe another DR or two may have had a different experience.

Is it too late to change the restaurant? the reservation? The two restaurants aren't that far from each other - Chez J is on 42nd, and Chez N is on 50th.

We would be sailing on the "Star" making stops at Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan, and Puerto Vallarta.  Reviews about that ship and itinerary have ranged from -
"Best food I have ever had on a cruise" to "I didn't know scrambled eggs were meant to be a soup"
and
"Servers were outstanding and so helpful" to "Servers were pushy and seemed intent only on separating you from your money."

In short, they varied widely.

Oh... And I've been hearing various reports about this over the past week or so... And sort of witnessed this too myself... But..

The Standard Hotel "straddles" the High Line... And the Standard has lots windows... And at night some people don't draw their curtains...

Just sayin'.... ::)

So, we were all awakened by this loud sawing.  And there has been total silence since then.  Which begs the question - what was so bloody important and time-pressing that they couldn't wait until ten?  We don't hear hammering, we don't hear yammering, no, we just hear an electric saw at eight-thirty in the morning and then NOTHING.
