Druxy,   Now that you've been there awhile...How is Austin working out?  Settling in?  Culture shock?  Advantages?  Disadvantages?  Things you miss about LA?

Chuck, do you and your beautiful wife ever plan to journey up to New York to see some theater?

A very nice young woman, who resembles Alfre Woodard, is freshening up our room at the moment.

Well, economic times are tough for everyone.

Wednesday morning greetings!  How did it get to be July already?  Hard to believe I've been retired for half a year.

Five years for me DR GINNY....and yes it's hard to believe!

Four years and three months, exactly - if I live that long.

Is that all??  I've got AT LEAST another 23 years before I can retire!! :P

Thank goodness.

Apparently it's also Build a Scarecrow Day.

Mike, is that guy on the right in the photo, is he a famous Indian character actor?  It seems like he is in just about every Bollywood film or clip that I have seen.

The last 24 hours I have been spending money as if I had it.  Two, for me, major purchases.  Now, you must realize that when I buy Extra Lean Ground Beef, instead of hamburger, it usually makes the Five O'Clock News, so I am not talking a new house or a car or anything.

I almost made it three major purchases.  If things had worked out better schedule-wise, I would have been showing up on Fred and Skip's door in time for dinner tomorrow night!  But, oh well, it was not to be.

Indeed, that is Nasir Hussain, who pops up in just about every other yesteryear Bollywood movie as a father or bad guy.

I didn't know you had seen that many Bollywood clips. I am so proud!

Hmmm, I just watched the CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON YouTube.  Thnaks for linking it, Jrand.  Is this something Universal released or something a fan put up on YouTube?  I didn't get any sense of what's sure to be the spectacle from that clip, and I really had trouble hearing the words, so i wonder how it was shot.

Very sorry to hear about Karl Malden.

I interviewed him for my first book.  Had lunch at Frascatti's on Sunset.

He was a fine actor and a very nice man.

A busy afternoon for me. I did get washing, combed, and set for my dinner engagement tonight. That will free up time later for writing and posting today's review.

I love my retirement.

However, the fact that you will be working 23 more years means YOU'RE YOUNG. Enjoy it while you can. It is HELL getting old. I mean that.

While I ate a little snack (a couple of crackers and a salad) to quell hunger until dinnertime, I watched last night's RESCUE ME. Very good episode (except for a very troubling scene where Tommy deliberately burned himself. Weird and sick. Troubling).

Then I watched my work project for the day: the Blu-ray of 12 ROUNDS. It's a cat and mouse film: bad guy has good guy's girl friend and spends the day sending him on little jobs in order to save her (think the first half of DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE). Works well as a brain-dead action movie until the plot falls apart near the end (how he finally figures out what the bad guy is REALLY up to).

The Blu-ray looks excellent. Sound for an action movie might have needed to be revved up a little more.

I watched the unrated version which was a minute longer than the PG-13 theatrical cut. A little more profanity in it (a couple of F-words) was basically the only difference I could note.

There were two commentaries which I did healthy samples of.

There were 8 bonus features, the longest of which was about 30 minutes.

This has been a bizarre streak of celebrity deaths.  Along with Karl Malden,  Mollie Sugden has also died today.

I really didn't have enough time to watch anything else this afternoon, and I doubt I'll get anything else watched today before I leave for dinner. I don't plan to stay a super long time. They're heading out to Virginia Beach tomorrow, and I don't want to overstay.

Very sorry to read about Karl Malden. I've reviewed the last couple of STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO sets (I never watched the show when it was on broadcast TV), and I enjoyed him in it. I could see why he got Emmy nominations for his work./

I love her! She played battleaxes really well.

We're back from a delightful lunch at Zen Palate and seeing HAIR (second time for me - first was in Ann Arbor in 1971/2).  Richard had not seen it before - he tried in London right after he got out of the Army in 1970, but couldn't get a ticket.  I've decided that the Hirschfeld is one of my favorite Broadway theaters.
