Well, you've read the notes, the notes were both down and dirty, and now it is time for you to post until the down and dirty cows come home.

Just heard from Grant that tomorrow is cancelled.  He wants to move to Sunday - I can do it if it's early and I leave by two-thirty, but it's really sort of annoying that Sunday will now be a non-stop work day.

DR JOSE - it looks like the plaque on that house says Titanic International, which is this group:

http://www.titanicinternationalsociety.org/index.html

Maybe an officer or member lives there.

Good morning, all! I'm off to Toyland for a couple of hours. I have some tidying up in my office and some organizing to accomplish this morning.

I shall sign in from there.

Most beautifully photographed movie?

There are so many.

LAWRENCE OF ARABIA comes immediately to mind.

Also RYAN'S DAUGHTER, DAYS OF HEAVEN, THE SEARCHERS.

For B&W, I'd have to go with CASABLANCA and CITIZEN KANE.

Saturday morning greetings!  We're getting ready to spend the day at McCormick Place with 20,000 or so other librarians.

Our email problem has been solved!

Good morning!

A nice cool morning, but we're back up into the high 80s by mid afternoon. Ugh! A chance of rain over the next four days, but none of them are high probabilities.

BK,

I suggested that you try what your tech guy did with the Blu-ray player back when you first described the problem, and I wish you had heeded my suggestion. It would have saved the guy a trip and you some anguish.

BTW, I do just the opposite of you in regard to my sound decoding. I use bitstream audiophile on all my discs (I prefer the receiver do the decoding; that is one of their primary functions) unless the Blu-ray has a secondary PIP audio track which demands that the player do the audio decoding.

Unless something comes in the mail today (highly doubtful), I have a completely free weekend in regard to work chores.

I'm planning right now to watch THE SAND PEBBLES on Blu-ray this evening. I haven't seen the entire film in decades, and I'm excited to think about seeing it looking wonderful.

As for this afternoon, it seems Saturday afternoon has become the catch-up with friends-on-the-telephone day, so I'll just watch THE FASHION SHOW, complete A MURDER IS ANNOUNCED, and possibly watch a VERONICA MARS episode depending on how many calls come in or that I make today.

As for the Topic of the Day...

The first thing that came to my mind was the Disney "Grand Canyon" film. I remember watching it a couple of times in when I was in grade school - and in different grade schools, in fact. The Grand Canyon, the Ferde Grofé's score... WOW!  -And I'm still sort of surprised that I haven't seen the Grand Canyon in person yet.

And some of the amazing wide shots in Jet Li's "Hero" are also popping into my head right now.

And the opening sequence of "The Sound of Music".

DR Matt H said (last night):
Quote
I watched QVO VADIS on Blu-ray the day I got it, and I can't for the life of me remember my impressions of the transfer. I'd have to go put it back in the player and rewatch.

Well, I watched the first two hours last night and can honestly say that the transfer is near to impeccable - I noticed a few register errors along the way - but is is mostly an immaculate presentation.
