Been E&T and must catch up at some point.

Mini-tax-season is in effect, which is really a good thing, in that it provides assurance that the work flow continues despite the economy.

Stephen King's "Apt Pupil" was one of his more disturbing short stories.  Lousy movie, though...

Last night, I watched JULIA with Tilda Swinton.

If she doesn't get an Oscar nomination for this film, then the producers & distributor should be taken out and stoned.

She delivers an amazing performance.

Hmmm...seems that movies with "Julia" in the title often have a lot of good luck for the actresses within.

Good Friday morning.

TOD:

DVD: MIRACLE KID (1942) starring Tom Neal and Carol Hughes.

CD: Sound track to a new Bollywood movie, the name of which escapes me.

DVR: Maverick episodes..I think there is one with Kathleen Crowley and one with William Reynolds.

Friday morning greetings!  As long as things remain quiet there, Richard and I are taking a day off from hospital visiting.  He has some Honor Guard duties today and I have a lot of puttering and errands to do.

So, I recorded my first hi-def movie last night on MGM-HD - but on the machine it said 480p or i or whatever.  Does the machine not record in hi-def at 1080?  Is that only a watch it now thing?  Or is there a setting I need to futz with?

I wonder how apt it is that the abbreviaton for the word "apartment" is "apt".

What would have happened, I wonder, if Billy Wilder and I.A.L. Diamond had been in an abbreviated mood and had penned/directed/released "The Apt" instead of "The Apartment"?

A word of caution to Mr. Bruce Kimmel regarding his DVR and setting recordings:

Some channels (some, mind you) don't necessarily start a program exactly when the channel guide says they will.  And some programs (mind you) don't necessarily end exactly when the channel guide shows them to be ending.

What you may get is a few minutes of pre-programming, followed by the program, and then you might find you may not get the last few minutes of the program,  This can be VERY annoying.

Not all channels -- NAY! Not even "most" channels -- do this thing.  Most are ultra-reliable.  But...you need to be aware of possibilities.

If there is something you absolutely do not want to miss one minute of -- something that might turn you into some unseemly raving individual if you missed a minute of it -- I recommend you go into the "set recording" mode and add a few minutes on the front and at the end...just to be CERTAIN.

This I do not know.  There must be a manual of some sort that may give insight into whether you can adjust the settings for the sort of signal you wish to record.

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And if it weren't for the cops pulling people over almost every 15 minutes last night, I probably would have gotten a more decent night's sleep.  -My bedroom is on the street-side of the apartment, so the briefs bouts of sirens and the "christmas lights" were a bit distracting.  Sadly, I believe the reason for the extra police presence last night was due to the fact that an 8-year old boy was accidentally killed by a taxi just a couple of blocks from my 'hood yesterday.  And there was also some sort of police investigation going on in the 125th Street subway station yesterday afternoon, that ended up "express-ing" the trains for a couple of hours.

Continuing yesterday's TOD....I could find only one song from this couple on You Tube....it is not my favorite, but it is typical.

The inimitable piano and vocal stylings of Jonathan & Darlene Edwards

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alWBCVHGPnY

Thanks for this!  I have both their albums.  Love it!!!!    :D

This does drive me crazy.  And unfortunately, if you want to use the "express pass" setting to record a show's whole season, my box doesn't allow you to add the extra minutes before and after.  So you have to manually set it up each week to record each new episode.    :(

And I think there's something quite funny - and almost ironic - about the fact that the person who introduced me to John and Darlene Edwards was my college piano teacher/professor.  :)

You're Blase' and I Love Paris will probably all be my favorites.

I was reminded of Jonathan and Darlene when DR CP mentioned Spike Jones yesterday.

The Carioca.

This was used as the backing track to the opening credits of some move.   Sorry; can't remember now which one.

TOD -

CDs:  At home, OBC Next to Normal, without a booklet; in my car, audiobook Commodore: The Life of Cornelius Vanderbilt by Edward Renehan; in Richard's car, audiobook A New Song by Jan Karon.  Both audiobooks are narrated by John McDonough, who has a wonderful voice.

DVDs:  Gilmore Girls, season 2; and whatever Richard has from Netflix.

This cracked me up from  DR MBarnum yesterday:

I took a bit of a nap this evening, so I hope I can get to sleep tonight. I did not intend to nap, but I was watching an old Tom Neal movie where he goes around shirtless a lot. Unfortunately, there was a scene in which he was fully clothed and that is when I dozed off.
