Here's a technical question for BK...or anybody else who can answer it.

If you see a film clip that you like on, say YouTube, is there any way that you can download it, so that you have it on your own computer?

I have a Mac.

Go to keepvid.com and enter the YouTube URL in the box at the top.  It'll give you the option to download as a flash video file (.flv extention) or an MP4, which can play in Quicktime and is better in quality.  You'll need a flash video player for your computer for the .flv files...click on the link on keepvid.com for the free .flv player.  It's free and I've never had any trouble with it.

I am inundated with various opera and ballet Blu-rays which I must review.  I actually liked the ballet I just watched, La Fille Mal Gardee, so my brain must be getting soft. 

It's Frederick Ashton's masterpiece! The Act Two clog dance for the widow is fantastic and John Lanchberry's score a masterpiece of pastiche and humor!

Yes, I knew about it, I had just never seen this particular BD before and I typically go into ballets dreading them.  I think it comes from being dragged to The Nutcracker one too many times (that would be once, LOL) as a child.

I'm a very critical admirer of NUTCRACKER, so watch it! Of course there are only three versions on DVD that I really like and too many not-so-good ones running from strange to inept.

There are three DVDs of LA FILLE MAL GARDEE, two from the Royal Ballet and one from Australia. Which is the Blu-ray? I prefer the first Royal Ballet one. You need David Vaughan's wonderful book on Ashton's ballets. I'm happy the SYLVIA was just released, but there are too many Ashton ballets that need to be on DVD.

I spelled David Vaughan's name incorrectly. I love his book. I also liked the biography of Ashton that was published around 5 years ago. He was as bad about the casting couch as Robbins.

This is the second one. I think the first with Leslie Collier might have been staged while Ashton was still around to keep an eye on things. That ribbon dance in the first act is really amazing. I suspect the original ballet from the 19th Century is tamer, not as outrageously funny with things like the clog dance and rich moron suitor flying away with his umbrella. Ashron's early career was staging musical revues for Cochran and directing the premiere of Virgil Thomson's FOUR SAINTS IN THREE ACTS. He's really the UK's answer to George Balanchine, and I wish both choreographers had more work of their work on video.

When I listen to Lanchberry's score, i just admire him for what a great craftsman he is at creating lush and funny dance arrangements. I laugh the quote he puts in Act one of the BABER OF SEVILLE aria "Ecco ridente in cielo," and his arrangement of Lehar for the MERRY WIDOw ballet is really good as well.

A friend of mine who was at ComicCon saw a segment from the film and said it was fantastic.  He was the man who directed me in THE CRUCIFER OF BLOOD.

I'd have no idea for the first two - have to see who's out there - for Jonathan Goldman, I'd have to give it some thought - in the book the character is sixty, and I'm not sure who of working actors is of that age.

What a day.  CDs arrived at nine-thirty, I got them all packaged and out the door by ten-thirty and over to the postal office.  Then I picked up some tapes, then did the two-mile jog, then packaged up all the online dealer orders.  Then Cason came over and we got all those packages to the car and shipped.  Then we had our lunch meeting, after which we did some more work at the house.  Having him here for these big orders was very helpful.  Then I've been printing out orders all day, too, and then I heard that our NEXT release is up for me to proof.
