I'm impressed by how tiny the names of the writer and director are compared to the names of the actors in the ARSENIC Playbill.

Typical of the times I guess....obviously billing was of little importance to them......my guess is that if it had been someone like George Abbott instead of Bretaigne Windust - and George S. Kauffman instead of Joseph Kesselring - there might have been an adjustment.

Congratulations to DR George!  Maybe spring '10 will be when I introduce my DH to my native PNW!

So...

I went to church this morning with my parents. We went to the 8:30am service.  Surprisingly, I was quite awake for the service.  We usually go to the later service, but since we had to drive back up to Fairfax this morning, well...

Two things I noticed about this particular church:

-They actually have a "late seating break" for, well, the latecomers.  It happens right before the Litrugy of the Word starts.  The ushers help and guide people into their seats, and then once the head usher give the signal, the Mass continues.

-Whoever programmed the music for this morning's service made sure to include a little bit of everything: traditional hymns, modern "folk" tunes, traditional hymns with a non-traditional accompaniment/rhythmic underlay, even an African-influenced "Alleluia".  The percussionist, consequently, was able to use his full battery (get it?) of "toys".  Including a djembe - which happened to be placed right next to a microphone.  At first I thought he was playing with a baby rattle. ;)

-Oh, and I believe the responsorial psalm should have been transposed down a key. Or two. Or three. ::)

Well... Frankly, if I hear that song one more time at an audition...

Alas, one of the "dangers" of my line of work.

With the talk of the datalounge I decided to take a gander at it. I never heard of it before. Somehow I got hooked into reading a thread about Mary Martin and several people (as Ethel Merman) posted the punch line to story I heard a while back about Ethel Merman and Mary Martin. I read through the whole thread hoping that someone would post the whole story, but no one did.

As for datalounge it is a real smarmy site. I like it :-)

I haven't caught up.  Steve is much worse than I thought he would be.  I'll be surprised if he makes it to Friday when I go back up there.

Today was a disaster.  When I first arrived Squeaker the cat greeted me as always and went back to the bedroom.   A little while later Gretch went back to make the bed and found Squeaker dead on the bed.  He hadn't made a noise, nothing, he just died.  He was only 10 years old.  So after much distress and stressing over whether to tell Steve (he was very close to the cat but we don't think he'll notice, he doesn't really know what's going on) we all decided not to tell him.

They had planned to just take Squeak to the vet Monday to have him cremated, but I knew that was done at the Humane Society there.  I contacted the nearest Humane Society that is about 20-25 miles from there. We found out they were open today and then not again until Thursday!  So, a couple hours after he died,  Gretch said goodbye to him, and I took Squeaker to the Humane Society.  She'll get his ashes later this week.

It wasn't a day for comic relief.  I put the geyser stuff in my parents' garage and will do it next weekend

After church, we headed back to my parents' house, packed up my stuff, and then hopped back on I-95 to head back up to Fairfax.

We ended up meeting up with my brother's former in-laws for lunch - along with my brother and his daughter.  We were also able to stop by my other brother's place to check in on him and his kids. So, all in all, it was a very family-filled and hug-filled day.

I think I will play some CD's!

Well, I guess that's better than playing with some CDs. Or playing CD.

-Not that there's anything wrong with that.  Just ask DR George. ;)

Thanks.  Losing Squeak right now was really not what any of them needed.  Thank heavens her sister lives next door to her and her brother and his family are just up the road.  They were all going to be there for dinner.  I'm thankful she has so much family support

I spent the next 190 minutes this afternoon with the third (and thankfully) last part of THE HUMAN CONDITION. It has been an interesting saga, but I rather regret it devolved into extreme melodrama by the last half hour. I kind of lost patience with it near the end going to its extremes and stretching everything out to agonizing lengths.

I'll trade you THE HUMAN CONDITION for the Staatskapelle Weimar RING CYCLE any day of the week.  :)

I also finally met the new husband and son of my brother's ex-wife.  -They're still really good friends, my brother and his ex, that is.  Mason, who is two-years old, is a cutie!  And, Chris, the husband, is a handsome-y.  ;)

*I also re-met my brother's ex-wife's cousin, Ryan.  Ryan lives in Richmond, and we met about eight years ago.  He was one of those "different" kids in high school.  He came up to DC one time to see a show I was playing, and loved it.  Once he got to college - and away from home - he found and was allowed to be himself, and bloomed.  He managed to turn his love of all things Disney into a position with Radio Disney while he was still in college. -Consequently, whenever any of the Disney tween acts (Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato) play in DC, he's able to pass on VIP passes on to his cousins.  He also, apparently, has a semi-famous drag alter-ego with an international(!) fan base.  It was actually kind of cool being able to "talk gay" with him today. ;)
